Share

Hormones are chemical messengers that are related to the functions performed by the various organs of the body. Some of the most important organs and glands that are responsible for secretion of hormones are thyroid, pituitary glands, adrenals, pancreas, testicles and ovaries, and together they form the endocrine glands. All the hormones are in perfect harmony with each other a health body. The slightest imbalance in any of these hormones can have a major affect on the overall endocrine system and trigger serious health issues.

In This Article, We Have Outlined Some Of The Possible Symptoms Of Hormonal Imbalance To Look Out For, In Case You Feel You Are Suffering From It:

1. Irregular Menstrual Periods

Ideally, every woman should have a periodic cycle which comes back in 3 to 5 weeks. The duration between two cycles vary from women to women. However, if they do not come around after the same duration every month or do not come at all during some months, it is a warning sign of hormonal imbalance. The possibility is that your body is not producing the female sex hormones, estrogen or progesterone, or both in the desired quantity.. However, irregular periods become very common when you reach perimenopause phase, the phase prior to menopause. Irregular periods should not be ignored. You should consult your doctor as this can be due to some underlying medical condition like polycystic ovaries.

2. Sleep Problems

If you are unable to enjoy a sound night’s sleep or have difficulty in falling asleep, this can be because your body is not releasing sufficient progesterone hormones. The deficiency in another hormone, estrogen may cause night sweats and hot flashes which may affect your sleep.

3. Chronic Acne

The excessive production of androgen makes the oil glands hyperactive. Moreover, the skin cells that contain hair follicles are also affected due to the over production of androgen. When pores become clogged due to excessive androgen, it may cause acne.

4. Blurred Memory

Brain fogging and temporary memory loss is common in some types of hormonal imbalance, which may last for several seconds or minutes. Dysfunction of the thyroid gland is one single reason in most of the cases. However, there are other reasons as well which may cause a blurred memory like lack of adequate sleep, stress, depression or adrenal fatigue. Low levels of the sex hormone estrogen can also cause a foggy memory as it has the ability to influence the neurotransmitters. This, in turn, can affect our memory power.

5. Belly Fat

A hormonal imbalance involves overproduction of some hormones with underproduction of some others. This may require the body to store some extra fat for future use. Hormonal imbalance causes unexplained body fat. You may gain weight without eating much fatty or calorie rich food or experience difficulty in losing it.

6. Fatigue

Hormonal imbalance results in lack of energy to carry on daily activities. The patient may also experience so numbness, weakness in bones in muscles, increased drowsiness and chronic fatigue. The fatigue may also be mental where the patient loses the energy to carry out tasks that require using the brain and the mind.

7. Depression And Frequent Mood Swings

Although the relation between hormonal imbalance and frequent mood swings with or without depression is not clearly understood, these two symptoms are very common when there is a hormonal imbalance.

8. Weight Gain Or Loss

The hormones in our body play an important role in regulating or metabolic functions. It helps in releasing digestive juices and enzymes that help in breaking down the food we consume. It is also responsible for storing fats in the body. If our thyroid and adrenal glands are not functioning properly, the weight we gain or lose might not match with our food intake and is most likely to result in unexplained weight loss or gain.  An imbalance in the thyroid hormones may cause imbalance in other hormones also. Therefore, if you have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, it is important to see the doctor for medication. You can also improve the hormone levels through adequate exercise, dietary changes and following a healthy lifestyle.

9. Poor Libido

A hormonal imbalance is often accompanied by low sexual desire or libido. A person with hormonal imbalance suffers from lack of sleep in the first place. It is difficult for the body to produce adequate sex hormones without adequate sleep.

10. Breast Changes

When there is a fall in the levels of estrogen, it affects the skin, especially the skin around the breasts. The breasts may become saggy and lose their fullness. The co-relation between the breast and the various muscles and the tissues to which the breasts are connected may be impaired.

11. Sweating And Hot Flashes

A menopausal woman experience night sweats and hot flashes which are followed by disturbance with sleeping. However, if a woman experience any of these earlier, there is possibly something wrong with the endocrine system. However, these may also be caused due to poor digestion caused from eating unhealthy food and under-supply of essential nutrients to the body.
