15 Superb Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Black Eye

A punch on the face can injure the eye and bruise the tissues around the eye and result in black eye. Other factors such as allergies, jaw surgeries can also result in black eye. Blood collects around the eyes and makes it appear dark in color. Black eye is not at all aesthetic to the eyes and besides it can causes a number of other problems like pain, swelling, bad vision. Few simple home remedies help in getting rid of black eye quickly .

Use Ice:

Applying ice is the first thing that one must do for curing black eye. Ice will give relief from pain and also help in facilitating blood flow and will speed up the healing. However remember that you should not apply ice directly. Take a few cubes of ice and wrap it up in a clean cloth. Apply this ice pack to the black eye at least five times in a day.

Using Pineapple And Papaya:

Both pineapple and papaya have a compound called bromelain which is an anti inflammatory agent and helps in curing black eye fast. Consume lots of fresh papaya and pineapple if you are suffering from black eye. You can also take a few pieces of pineapple and papaya and mash them to form a pulp. Apply this pulp to the affected area at least thrice daily.

Rubbing Arnica Infused Olive Oil:

The herb arnica has anti inflammatory properties and it helps reduce swelling and cures bruises. This herbal oil needs sufficient time to be made at home so don’t wait for the injury to occur .Instead prepare the oil in advance and use it when required Take one tablespoon of dried herb in a bottle. To it add five tablespoons of olive oil. Mix well and let the mixture stand for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks boil the mixture on a double boiler for few minutes. Cool and strain the oil. Store it in a bottle. Apply it to the bruises when required.

Warm Compress:

This remedy has to be used two days after the injury. It helps in the healing process by improving the blood circulation. Take a clean cloth and dip it in warm water and apply this cloth to the affected eye. Keep it on the eye till the cloth becomes cool. Repeat the process several times in a day.

Eat A Diet Rich In Vitamin C:

Vitamin C helps fight infections better and also aids in the healing process by improving collagen production and preventing further damage to the blood vessels. Include vitamin C rich foods in your daily diet such as lemons, oranges, broccoli, mangoes, Indian gooseberry etc.

Applying Calendula Or Marigold Infused Water:

Calendula or marigold has healing properties and it also helps to reduce the inflammation. Take a few petals of calendula flower .Add them to a cup of water and heat the solution. Let the mixture boil for 15 minutes. Strain and place the solution in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Now dip a clean cloth in the cold solution and apply it to the black eye. Follow the remedy thrice daily.

Massaging With Coconut Oil:

Massaging with coconut oil will help improve blood circulation and help in the healing process. Only be careful that you massage gently as excess pressure can cause further damage. Take a good quality coconut oil for the purpose. Take a few drops of the coconut oil and gently massage the affected area. Follow the remedy twice daily.

Use Of Potatoes:

Potatoes reduce the inflammation and have a soothing effect and also help in the healing process. Peel the potato and cut it into slices. Cool these slices in the refrigerator and place them on the eye for few minutes. Alternatively grate the peeled potato and extract its juice and apply this juice to the affected area.

Use Of Comfrey Roots Paste And Tea:

Comfrey root helps in reducing inflammation and help in the healing process. Take a little comfrey root. Add water and grind it to a fine paste. Apply the paste to the affected area. Alternatively take a little comfrey root and add it to a cup of water. Boil the mixture for few minutes. Strain and cool the solution. Apply this solution to the affected eye with the help of a clean cloth.

Use Witch Hazel Infused Water:

Witch hazel is widely used by native Indian Americans for its anti inflammatory and healing properties. Add a little witch hazel to the water and boil it .Strain the solution and cool it .Apply this solution with the help of a cloth to the affected area. Alternatively you can add a few drops of witch hazel oil to the water. Mix it well and apply this mixture to the affected area with the help of a cloth.

Use Of Cayenne Pepper And Vaseline:

The compound capsaicin in cayenne pepper has anti inflammatory and healing properties and hence can be used to treat black eye. Mix a little cayenne pepper in Vaseline and apply it to the affected skin around the eyes .After 30 minutes remove with the help of a wet cloth. While applying this mixture take extra precaution and make sure that the mixture does not go into the eyes.

Use Of Hard Boiled Egg:

The warmth of the hard boiled egg gives comfort to the black eye. Take an egg and boil it in water. Remove the shell and roll the warm egg around the affected eye. Once the egg has cooled down again boil it in water and apply to the eyes. The egg can be used till it turns black.

Use Of Cucumber:

Cucumber soothes the black eye and has a cooling effect. It aids in faster healing. Peel a cucumber and cut into slices. Place these slices on the affected eye fo few minutes. Repeat the process after regular intervals.

Diet Rich In Vitamin K:

Vitamin K is an antioxidant which helps improve circulation .It also repairs and heals damaged blood vessels. Therefore eat a diet which is rich in vitamin K. Eat lots of spinach, lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, prunes etc which are rich in vitamin K.

Use Of Tea Bags:

Tea contains tannin which has a soothing effect on the eyes and helps give relief from black eye. Dip a tea bag in water and then cool it in the refrigerator. Place the cool tea bag on the affected area. Follow the remedy twice daily.


These simple home remedies help in healing black eye but if the symptoms persists or if there is problem in vision and also the person suffers from nausea then immediately seek medical help.
