While this herb is more popular for its antiseptic properties, turmeric has also been found to be effective for treating joint pains, especially in people suffering from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Research showed that turmeric has potential anti-inflammatory properties, which are believed to be more effective that even anti-inflammatory drugs. This herbal remedy was well known in Indian homes and was a common respite for the elderly.
One of the easiest ways to incorporate this highly effective herbal remedy in your diet is to prepare a soothing herbal tea with it. Simmered with ginger, another potential anti-inflammatory herb, this herbal tea when consumed twice daily will relieve joint pain within a very short span of time.
To prepare it, boil two cups of water and add ½ teaspoon each of ground ginger and turmeric to the boiling water. Alternatively, you can also use 1-inch pieces of fresh rhizomes. Let the herbs simmer in the water for 10-15 minutes. After that, strain the tea and add a bit of fresh honey before serving.
This poultice is not only effective for treating joint pain resulting from arthritis but also due to fractures and other accidents. When applied over a swollen and inflamed joint, it helps to treat the pain and swelling almost immediately. To prepare it, make a paste out of ginger and turmeric rhizomes and mix the paste well. Apply the warm poultice over the affected joint and let it rest for 20-30 minutes to get relief.
Another way to incorporate turmeric into your diet to get relief from joint pain is to drink turmeric milk. This can be prepared very easily by simply grinding fresh turmeric rhizome and mixing it with milk. Strain the milk before consuming. Drink this turmeric milk at least twice a day to get faster relief.
