Indigestion which results from the ingestion of rich foods or other factors such as acidity, is a problem all of us have had at some point in time or another. Herbs are a very effective natural cure for indigestion. Many herbs can be used to ward off indigestion and improve the general health of the digestive system.

Herbs which are very effective for curing indigestion include Dill, Lemon Balm, Fennel, Chamomile, Turmeric , Artichoke, Peppermint and Cayenne. Herbs soothe the gastrointestinal tract of the stomach and ease stomach pain caused due to indigestion. They also reduce acidity and prevent ulcers in the stomach. Herbs To Cure Indigestion

Chamomile

Chamomile is one of the most effective herbs for treating indigestion. Although this herb is known for its ability to relax the body and calm the mind, Chamomile is also a very good herbal cure for poor digestion caused due to overindulgence in rich foods. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties.

It can calm the mind in the face of severe stress. When digestive problems are occurring due to physiological or psychological stressors, Chamomile soothes the body and eases digestive processes. You can drink Chamomile tea made from the leaves of this herb. Chamomile tea bags are also readily available for use.


Dill

Dill is excellent for soothing the stomach and easing gastric problems.  You can use the leaves and seed of this herb to brew tea which can settle your stomach with rapidity and ease. Just add 1 tablespoon of this herb’s leaves or seeds to 2 cups of boiling water. Let the tea settle for about 8 to 10 minutes and then add sweeteners and consume this for best results.

Dill has been documented to  be very effective in healing the stomach and aiding digestion. Dill has been used since the olden days as a remedy for indigestion. It contains a compound called carvone which helps to cure stomach upset and gastric problems.


Fennel

The seed of this herb has been found to be very effective in curing flatulence, stomach cramps and acidity caused by indigestion. It has been used as a carminative to expel toxicity from the body in many herbal treatments. Fennel seed also helps to prevent spasmodic pain and stomach aches in a person suffering from indigestion.

Fennel seeds can be crushed and added to tea quite easily for obtaining the benefits of this herb. You can also chew dried Fennel seeds to cure indigestion. Fennel has been used since the olden days as a remedy for indigestion. Its seeds contain ingredients which bind the stomach and prevent the worsening of the symptoms of indigestion.


Peppermint

Peppermint is very effective for easing gastrointestinal problems and build up of heat and discomfort in the stomach. This is because Peppermint contains menthol. Menthol cools the stomach and refreshes the mouth. Studies have also found that Peppermint reduces the stomach cramps linked to indigestion.

Known by the botanical name Mentha Pepirita, this herb improves the bile flow in the stomach which is crucial in digesting fat rich foods. It also prevents bloating of the stomach that people with indigestion often experience. Peppermint drops can also be consumed in order to relieve symptoms of indigestion such as stomach ache, nausea and acidity.


Lemon Balm

Also called Melissa, Lemon Balm is a herb which has amazing curative properties with respect to improving digestion. Symptoms of indigestion such as flatulence and acid reflux can be treated effectively through the use of Lemon Balm. This herb also prevents the inflammation of the stomach.

You can take Lemon Balm in the form of tincture or capsules. Lemon Balm tea can also be prepared to cure an upset stomach. Boil the leaves of this herb in water, add the tea leaves and sweeteners and drink this herbal tea for soothing your stomach and relieving indigestion.
