5 Remedies For Dehydration

Dehydration can be defined as a condition wherein there is excessive amount of fluid loss in the body. In this condition a person loses major amounts of fluid that exceeds the person’s intake. The presence of adequate amount of water in a body is very vital for the wellbeing of the body. Dehydration can have grave impact on the body and can cause death in extreme and chronic cases.

This loss of fluids generally occurs due to diseases such as diarrhoea, vomiting, influenza, rota virus and many more such cases. Sometimes overexertion, avoidance or minimal intake of water also results in dehydration. Low blood pressure constant headaches, dizziness, giddiness and fainting are some of the common symptoms of dehydration.

It is imperative to remain hydrated , however, when a body has a tendency to lose the fluids and the salts of the body, apart from providing ORS, one should also resort to herbal remedies as they are equally effective. Some of the common herbal remedies for providing relief from dehydration and its prevention are as follows.

Various Herbal Remedies For Dehydration

Chamomile

This is one of the most common herb can be prepared in the form of tea to tackle the problem of dehydration. It is decaffeinated and is therefore very effective for fluid replacement which is caused by dehydration.

Chamomile tea is most preferred as it is known to have soothing effects in the stomach which has the tendency to get cramps caused by dehydration.


Licorice Root

This herbal remedy is excellent in not just curing dehydration but many other illnesses also. Its juice is rich and aids in the production of cells and soothes the stomach lining thereby helping in curing diarrhoea which causes dehydration. When Licorice root is dropped in water it will create foam and fizz which when consumed will calm the acid content as it works as a perfect antacid.

Glycyrrhiza glabra , the main component of Licorice is responsible for forming the stomach lining by increasing cell production and this indirectly prevents dehydration as stomach lining settles the acid content. When taken in minimal doses it prevents fatigues and stops the formation of ulcers. Licorice is famously taken in the form of tea as well to increase the fluid content in the body.


Mint

Another famous remedy for dehydration is Mint. When taken in the fresh form or when its oil is mixed with cold water, it brings immense relief to the digestive system and thus provides substantial relief in the problem.


Skullcap (Scutellaria Baicalensis)

This herb is of Chinese origin. It is a very popular herb that is used for treating ailments such as dehydration. It is used to dilate the blood vessels on the skin’s surface which helps in bringing down the temperature of the body and aids in cooling and combating the after effects of dehydration. It is prohibited for pregnant women.


Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium)

Yarrow is another effective herb for curing dehydration and dealing with it effects. Fever caused due to dehydration can be cured by consuming yarrow tea. When its tea is consumed it gets rid of the fatigue and stops the perspiration that is another cause of fluid loss.

It is anti-coagulant in nature hence people who are taking medicines for blood thinning should avoid it. Even pregnant women are advised against taking this herb.
