5 Herbal Remedies For Sinus Infection

Sinuses are air filled cavities in the nose and skull. Usually they are air filled, but in case of an infection they get filled with mucus produces from the inflamed tissue lining of the sinus. Bacteria and other microorganisms, then, invade this fluid filled cavity. Blocked nose with discharge and congestion are the chief symptoms of sinusitis accompanied by fever and malaise. There are several treatments available for sinusitis.

Some Of The Herbal Remedies Are-

Onions

They are considered as one of the best herbal cure for sinus infections. They are loaded with sulfur compounds which helps in clearing the nasal passage and the clogged mucus. Slice an onion into a few portions and inhale the smell of onions. If the smell irritates the eyes, then add a few pieces of fresh onion in a cup of boiling water and boil it for 5-7 minutes more. Drink the mixture while it is still hot. Repeat this 3-4 times daily.

Horseradish

Grate a horseradish into tiny pieces and hold one piece in the mouth and allow the fragrance and the flavor to dissolve the mucus of the nose through the sinus tract. Once the flavor is gone, swallow the piece so that it also clears the mucus in the throat. Repeat this 2-3 times daily for a few days to get benefit from the condition.

Oregano

It is an antibiotic herb and its oil can inhibit the growth of sinusitis causing microorganisms in the body. Either place a drop of oregano oil under the tongue 2-3 times a day or add 2-3 spoons of oregano oil in a pot of boiling water. Inhale the vapors of this mixture for some time and repeat it a few times daily.

Grapefruit

In case of chronic sinus infections because it is an antibiotic which inhibits the growth of bacteria, virus, fungi and parasites in the body. Grapefruit extract is available as a liquid or capsules. It is also available as a nasal spray.

Ginger

It contains pungent phenols which are an excellent expectorant. They inhibit the mucus secretion from the respiratory tract and makes the breathing easy and comfortable. Grate a few pieces of ginger and add them to a cup of boiling water and steep them for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture and add some honey to add flavor and for soothing the throat. Now drink this herbal tea sip by sip.
