5 Remedies For Scabies

Share

Scabies refers to a contagious skin disease marked by itching and red rashes. It occurs when your skin is invaded by itch mite, which is also known as Sarcoptes Scabiei. It lays eggs after getting under your skin, which eventually causes itching and blistering on the affected areas.

You are advised not to scratch those areas because it can aggravate the infection. Since scabies have been a problem since ancient times, there are plenty of effective herbal remedies available. Following are some of the most popular ones.

Herbal Remedies For Scabies

Aloe

Aloe is a tender, juicy and tasty herb, which is used in treating an array of health disorders. Aloe leaf gel contains glycoproteins, amino acids, polysaccharides and salicylic acid. All these substances have powerful wound-healing properties. Scabies rashes can be cured very effectively by applying the aloe gel topically.

Benzyl benzoate is one of the most common anti-scabies drugs. Most of the medical studies that have been conducted on aloe have confirmed that the herb is as effective in treating scabies as is benzyl benzoate. In fact, benzyl benzoate carries some side effects like loss of consciousness and oozing. But, no such side effects have been found with the use of aloe.

Tea Tree Oil

Medically termed as Melaleuca Alternifolia, tea tree oil has been used as an ancient herbal remedy for skin disorders, fungal infections, acne, wounds and also for infections caused by insect bites that include scabies.

“Archives of Dermatology” published reports of various clinical studies conducted on tea tree oil in its May 2004 issue, stating there are more than sixty terpenoids in tea tree oil, which carry powerful anti-scabies properties. However, tea tree oil should not be applied directly. You should first dilute it with vegetable oil and then apply the same to the affected areas.

African Nutmeg

Medically termed as Monodora Myristica, African Netmug grows throughout West Africa but it is available as herbal supplements in most health food stores in the US and other countries also. The herb is a member of the custard apple family. African nutmeg seeds have been used for thousands of years as a very effective herbal remedy for scabies.

Cat’s Paw

Medically termed as Uvaria Afzelli, cat’s paw is a tropical shrub that contains similar features as do African nutmeg. However, while African nutmeg is used mainly to treat scabies and similar skin-related infections only, cat’s paw is used in the treatment of an array of other health disorders also, such as urinary tract infections, smallpox, cough and fever.

The roots and leaves of this herb, when taken in proper dosage consistently, can cure scabies completely within just a few days.

Bush Tea

Medically termed as Lippia Multiflora, bush tea contains thymol, geraniol, linalool, cymene and alpha and beta pinene. All these substances carry powerful healing properties for scabies. The essential oil extracted from the leaves of bush tea can be applied directly on the infected areas. The insect repellant and antimicrobial properties of bush tea oil can help you to get rid of scabies within 3-4 days.

Though the above herbal remedies for scabies are considered as safe and very effective, it will still be wiser to consult your doctor first.
