5 Remedies For Hypertension

Share

Hypertension or high blood pressure is the root cause of many diseases. The term high blood pressure is used to define a condition when the blood of a person gains tremendous force and exerts high amount of pressure against the blood vessels.

This pressure damages the blood vessels over time and leads to several other heart disorders like heart failure, stroke, peripheral arterial disease, myocardial infarction and aortic aneurysm. This disease shortens the life expectancy of a person and therefore must be treated at the earliest.

Apart from using prescribed medication, you can consult your doctor before use of some of the below mentioned remedies to keep your hypertension bouts in control. These are easy to get, inexpensive and normally side-effects free.

Home Remedies For Hypertension

Honey

Honey is one of the best home remedies for hypertension. Many preliminary studies have proven that honey is effective for treating high blood pressure and thus hypertension. Since honey contains high amount of sugar, water and proteins, it becomes easier for the person to absorb the sugar from honey and then utilise it in the form of carbohydrate.

This in turn helps to improve the problem of hypertension. Apart from that, honey also aids in lowering sodium levels in the body, which directly caters to lowering of blood pressure levels. Regular consumption of one teaspoon of honey will not only help bring down your blood pressure level but will also help you control your hypertension.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Extracted from apple must, apple cider vinegar is a very powerful home remedy. It has been used for centuries to treat a wide number of diseases, which also includes management of high blood pressure.

Several studies conducted on rats revealed that acetic acid and other vitamins and minerals found in apple cider vinegar play the vital role in controlling high blood pressure or hypertension. Other than lowering high blood pressure directly, this amber-colored vinegar also plays a major role in preventing and managing high blood pressure by reducing excessive weight and high cholesterol levels, which are also some of the contributing factors of hypertension.

Apple cider vinegar can be consumed by mixing 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 glass of water. Drink this concoction twice daily to beat hypertension.

Garlic

Garlic is considered to be the best home remedy for managing hypertension or high blood pressure. Garlic works in three different ways to lower blood pressure levels. First of all, the sulphur compounds found in garlic aid in vasodilation. Various studies revealed that red blood cells convert those sulphur compounds found in garlic into hydrogen sulphide, which in turn is responsible for vasodilation of blood vessels.

Secondly, garlic helps to indirectly lower blood pressure levels by preventing oxidative damage of blood vessels. It is believed that free radicals oxidize the bad cholesterols from the body; the resulting inflammation damages the fine capillaries and blood vessels, which in turn leads to atherosclerosis. Sulphur compounds found in garlic act as antioxidants which prevent this oxidative damage by reacting with the free radicals. Finally, garlic prevents excessive aggression of platelets.

High platelet aggression can lead to plaque formation which makes the blood thick and hampers proper blood flow. This in turn elevates the blood pressure levels. Consuming 2-4 fresh cloves of garlic everyday can effectively reduce blood pressure levels. Other than that, you can also take 2 200 mg tablets thrice a day if you are using freeze-dried garlic, 20 ml of garlic tincture daily, 600 to 1200 mg of aged garlic extract per day, 0.03 to 0.12 ml of garlic oil thrice daily or 4 ml of fluid garlic extract daily to get rid of hypertension.

Brahmi

Brahmi or Indian Pennywort is a medicinal plant that primarily grows in India, Africa and Asia. This miraculous plant not only helps to treat hypertension but also various other physical disorders. It stabilizes the blood pressure levels by helping to cope with anxiety and stress.

It relaxes the mind and relieves it from tensions, which is also a very prominent trigger of hypertension.  Other than that, brahmi plays a vital role in strengthening the collagen fibers of blood vessels, thereby preventing them from getting hampered by high blood pressure.

Brahmi can be taken both in powdered or juice form to lower blood pressure level. Dissolve 3-6 grams of brahmi in a glass of lukewarm water and consume it before sleeping at night or you can also take 20-30 ml of brahmi juice twice per day with lukewarm water to get relief from hypertension.

Triphala

Triphala is one of the best herbal remedies for hypertension. Triphala is a very important herb in Ayurveda and is termed as the “mother of herbs”. Triphala is a combination of three Indian herbs called amalaki, bhibitaki and haritaki. This combination has been used since the ancient times to treat many diseases including hypertension.

Haritaki found in triphala is the main herb which works to reduce hypertension. This herb lowers blood pressure by controlling cholesterol levels and the frequency of hypertension bouts. Triphala also possesses antioxidant properties which provide further protection from hypertension and other heart diseases.

Consuming 1 tablespoon of triphala powder with 1 glass of lukewarm water every night before sleep can help you get relief from the problems of hypertension.
