Steam Shower

 

When you are completely choked with extreme cold, the best way is to go with hot, steamy shower. You can take a bowl of boiling water and take your head close as you cover it with a towel so that the vapor will be trapped. Breathe that warm water for 5 to 7 times and you’ll get a lot of relief afterwards.

You can even try out by adding fresh herbs such as rosemary, eucalyptus or peppermint or few drops of essential oils to the boiling water. As you come forward towards the bowl with wrapped head you can inhale it and feel much better.


Apple Cider Vinegar

 

You can treat the congestion with the help of apple cider vinegar. You can add some apple cider vinegar in the warm water, and then inhale it which will clear the stuffiness.

You can also mix two-three drops inside a saline nose spray and put it for once or twice in your nose. If you wish you can include lemon juice and cayenne along with apple cider vinegar, or combine them with water and honey and drink it.


Hot Tea

You can prevent your congestion with the aid of hot tea along with honey and lemon. You can prepare hot tea with some tulsi (holy basil) added to it.

You can also make a lemon tea including honey and drink it daily for freeing yourself from the cold. The lemon is huge mucus clearer and can afford extra vitamin C, and honey is antibacterial, and thus its combination works superbly on your nose.

You can get rid of congestion by drinking tomato tea every day. For preparing the tomato tea, you have to make a mixture of 2 cups of tomato soup or canned/fresh squeezed tomatoes, 2 teaspoon of lemon juice, 2-3 cloves and hot sauce in a pan and heat it in the microwave.

You can then sip the liquid slowly as you allow the fumes to go through your sinuses and into your lungs. Make it a point to drink the tomato tea daily.


DIY Vapor

The DIY vapor rub will also help in diminishing the congestion from the nose and chest areas. Take a small bowl and add some amount of coconut oil and 7 to 10 drops of better quality essential oil (mint or eucalyptus) and combine it nicely. Then you can spread the oil mixture on your chest or pat it around your nose.


Garlic

Garlic containing antifungal and antibacterial substances will help in curing congestion problems including cold and sinus. You can add garlic supplement in the water and warm the mixture.

After the hot garlic tea is prepared you can take sips while you breathe its vapor. You can also saute the raw garlic pieces along with the vegetables or pasta and eat it, and alongside you can also breathe in few garlic steam.
