While standing, walking or running, it is your feet that balance your body weight. Therefore, after a long day, it is advisable to soothe and relax the tired feet with a foot soak. Soaking the feet in warm water helps in stimulating circulation and soothes the aching muscles. It helps in alleviating pain and relaxing the muscles. The salts added to the foot soak are known to help in detoxification. Furthermore, foot bath softens the skin and is an excellent remedy for cracked heels. A refreshing foot bath helps you to unwind, thereby reducing stress and anxiety.
Lavender soothes the tired feet and relieves tension. It is also known for its antiseptic property that helps in reducing risk of fungal infections. In a bowl, mix ¼ cup dried lavender buds with two tablespoons each of dried sage, dried rosemary and Epsom salt. Put two to three tablespoons of the mixture in a muslin pouch and soak the pouch in the foot-soaking tub filled with warm water for 5 minutes. Leave the muslin bag in the water. Immerse your feet in the warm water.
For this refreshing foot soak, you will need two lemons, two stalks of lemongrass, a bunch of fresh peppermint, petals of three roses, 15 drops of peppermint essential oil and 12 drops of rosewood essential oil. Chop and crush the peppermint leaves and lemongrass. Cut one lemon into two halves and squeeze the juice into the water. Cut the other lemon into thin slices. Add all the ingredients in a large basin filled with warm water. Soak your feet in the warm foot bath.
In a basin filled with warm water, add ¼ to ½ cup of apple cider vinegar. Soak your feet for about 10 minutes in the foot bath. Apart from re-invigorating your tired feet, the apple cider vinegar foot bath removes foot odor. The acidity of vinegar destroys harmful microorganisms, thereby minimizing risk of fungal infections.
In addition to relieving foot pain, the tea foot bath helps in eliminating foot odor. Tannic acid released in the warm water from the tea leaves helps in suppressing growth of fungus on the feet. Soak 2 to 3 tea bags in a pot of boiling water. Cool the tea to room temperature. Soak your tired feet in the lukewarm tea for half an hour.
Baking soda foot soak helps in smoothing the rough patches on the feet. It softens the skin and soothes the muscles. Add a quarter cup baking soda to a small basin filled with warm water. Stir the water with a spoon to dissolve the baking soda. Add several drops of peppermint essential oil to the foot bath. Soak your feet in the warm bath for 15 to 20 minutes.
The anti-inflammatory property of ginger helps in relieving pain and relaxes the feet. To prepare the foot bath you will need about 2/3-cup of freshly grated ginger. Place the grated ginger at the center of a piece of cheesecloth. Bring the four sides of the cheesecloth together and tie them to create a cheesecloth bag. Soak the cheesecloth bag in a small basin filled with warm water. After a few minutes, squeeze the bag to release the ginger juice into the water. Soak your feet in the ginger foot bath for 10 minutes.
