7 Amazing Health Benefits of Garlic

A lot of people avoid garlic due to it’s pungent smell. But after knowing it’s benefits, I am sure they will think twice before saying no to garlics. Garlics are widely used as spices or seasoning around the world. It adds flavour to food. But just like all other spices, it is not restricted to adding flavour to all that we eat. The main purpose behind  your mom using garlic in almost all her recipes is the fact that it has a lot of health benefits.

1. Cholestrol

Garlic helps in keeping your cholestrol levels under control. There are two types of cholestrols – Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). Uncontrolled levels of LDL are bad for your health and garlic helps in keeping them under control.

Ofcourse if you already have high cholestrol level and are under medication, garlic would be a minor help. But, a minor help is always better than no help. You can add garlic in your daily diet to control your cholestrol levels. If you do not have high cholestrol issues, then using garlic would surely help you in keeping cholestrol under control.[1] 

2. Better Immunity

If you often fall sick, that is probably because you have a weak immune system. The immune system is the self defence mechanism of our body which keeps us fit. It is our natural way of staying safe against the disease causing pathogens. If it is not working fine for you, try using garlic.

Garlic would help in improving your immunity which means you will fall sick less often. Garlics activate macrophages. Macrophages are white blood cells which eat up all the foreign particles in your body. They help in clearing your system of all the unwanted bacteria, dead cells, etc. So, taking garlic in your daily meal will help in boosting your immunity naturally.[2]

3. Heart Attacks

Heart is one of the most vital organs of our body. With todays lifestyle, each one of us is concerned about our healths. I am sure that the thought of heart attack would have crossed your mind at least once. If you are concerned about heart attacks, you should start using garlic.

In fact if you have a weak heart, then you should surely consider taking garlic in your daily diet. Heart attack mainly occurs when blood cannot reach into your heart. This happens when your blood forms small clots and blocks the blood flow. Garlic helps in dissolving blood clots. It also helps in reducing the tendency of your blood to form clots.[3]

4. Ear Infection

Infection in ear is very painful. Since we are not used to a paining ear, it irritates even more. For a moment we can handle pain in stomach but a paining ear is very difficult to handle. Garlic helps in fighting against ear infection. If you have pain in your ear, you can use garlic oil.

Garlic is an anti fungal agent, it would kill infection causing fungi in your ear. To use garlic for ear infection, take some garlic juice and mix it with olive oil in 1:5 ratio (1 part of garlic juice in 5 parts of olive oil). You can directly use some of this oil in your ear canal. Put the mixture in your ear and rest for sometime so that the mixture can work easily.[4] 

5. Diabetes

If you are suffering from diabetes, you should surely consider garlic. It would help in lowering the levels of sugar in your blood. Garlic works by stimulating pancreas to create insulin. An optimum amount of insulin in your body would keep your sugar level under control.[5] 

6. Digestion

One of the basic reasons of using garlic in food is that is helps in digestion. If you have a poor digestion, try adding garlic in your meals. It is an anti-inflammatory ingredient, so it would keep your digestive system healthy.

It will soothe any kind of inflammation in your body. Also, it is anti-bacterial in nature. It would kill all the harmful bacteria in your system and would keep you healthy.[6] 

7. Peptic Ulcer

Ulcers in stomach are usually caused when the stomach lining erodes. They mainly occur in stomach and upper part of intestines. Ulcers are marked by symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, belching, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc.

In severe cases, the ulcer leads to bleeding in stomach. At times, this is marked by blood in vomit. One of the causes of peptic ulcer is a bacterium called Helicobater pylori. Garlic inhibits the growth of this bacterium and prevents ulcers in your stomach. Even if you do not have a history of peptic ulcer, it is better to avoid it.[7] Garlic has numerous health benefits. Use it in your daily diet and you will see the difference.
