Jock itch, also known as tinea cruris, is named so because it is mostly seen in sportsmen. It is also known as crotch itch, eczema marginatum and ringworm of the groin. The infection might spread to the penis, scrotum, anus, inner thigh and in the crack of the buttocks. Trichophyton rubrum is the fungus that mostly causes jock itch. Some other types of fungi can also cause this infection. People with low immunity are more likely to develop this infection.
It is also commonly seen in people who have diabetes, AIDS or obesity as they are more prone to infections due to a weak immune system. Although it is considered a minor medical condition, it can make a person very uncomfortable. Herbal remedies are very effective in providing relief from the symptoms of jock itch.
Tea tree oil is well known for its antifungal properties and is used widely to treat many skin conditions. It is a powerful antifungal and anti-inflammatory agent. It possesses deep cleansing and antibacterial properties which help provide a lot of relief to patients with jock itch.
Tea tree oil should be diluted with some olive oil and then used, as it can be quite strong on sensitive skin. Apply this oil to the affected areas using a clean cotton ball. This application should be repeated twice daily until the jock itch is cured completely. It gives a lot of relief from the itching and inflammation.
Garlic has strong antifungal properties and is very beneficial to our body whether taken internally or applied externally. Applying crushed garlic cloves to the affected areas provides a lot of relief from itching and this also prevents the infection from spreading.

Oregano is a perennial herb which is used for a variety of purposes the world over. The essential oil of oregano has antibacterial properties and works wonderfully in treating fungal infections.
Pure oregano oil burns, so apply only a drop over the affected area. Doing this just once a day, for a period of three to five days, cures the jock itch completely. Just a caution: do not apply this oil on unaffected areas.
Apple cider vinegar is widely used for many medicinal and health purposes. It contains high amounts of malic acid which is a natural antifungal. This property of apple cider vinegar is very beneficial in treating jock itch effectively.
Soak a soft cloth in diluted apple cider vinegar and place it over the affected areas for at least 10 minutes. This provides relief from the itching and cures the jock itch completely in three to five days.
Cassia alata, or senna alata, is a tropical shrub having yellow flowers and large leaves. The juice extracted from its leaves is very effective in treating fungal skin diseases.
It is very effective in curing jock itch completely. Apply cassia alata leaf paste over the affected areas twice a day. Wash it off after fifteen minutes. This application should be continued for five days to get rid of jock itch.
Neem (Azadirachta indica) is a tropical tree commonly found in India and other southeast countries. It possesses many medicinal properties and is very beneficial in treating jock itch. The seeds, bark and leaves of neem tree contain special compounds that are known for their antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.
Make a paste of some fresh neem leaves and apply over the affected area. Do not cover with a cloth or wear any underwear and allow the paste to dry completely. Keep it on for at least two hours then wash off properly. Repeat this application for three days to five days. This cures the jock itch completely.
