Share

Body itching is an embarrassing and annoying problem to suffer from and it can be caused due to a variety of reasons ranging from accumulation of sweat in certain parts of the skin to allergic skin rashes. To relieve the itching, rather than applying expensive creams and ointments, herbal remedies are a relatively safer and more cost effective way of dealing with the problem.

There are a vast number of herbs which can be used to relieve body itching. These include Aloe Vera, Basil, Calendula, Chamomile, Comfrey, Evening Primrose, Witch Hazel, St. John’s Wort, Plantain, Nettle, Juniper Berries, Lavender, Licorice and Marshmallow. Some of the best and most effective herbal remedies for handling body itching are discussed in this article.

Herbal Remedies To Stop Body Itching

Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel is a herb which has been used by the Native Americans for centuries in order to relieve skin irritation and itching. Tannins which are found in the leaves and bark of this herb are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. They also help to soothe skin irritation and stop itching.

This is because Witch Hazel has astringent properties and it is able to coat the skin with protein which reduces the swelling and eases the itching caused by skin infections and rashes. A protective coating is formed around the skin by applying the Witch Hazel extract topically on the areas of your body that are itching. This helps to block the irritation and itching sensation of the skin.

Plantain

This herb has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it an ideal cure for this problem. Skin itching is relieved by an application of the paste made from the crushed leaves of this herb. This herb is good for reducing the swelling and irritation commonly associated with skin conditions.

It protects the skin from damage and helps to stave off body itching.  It can also be combined with Witch Hazel to reduce itching of the skin. You can use Plantain and Witch Hazel extract in a paste to dab on your skin, in order to get rid of the itching and discomfort.

Marshmallow

You can also use the root of the Marshmallow herb to eliminate skin itching. The root of this herb contains the ability to soothe and tighten the skin, and also prevent irritation in the layers of the skin. You should combine the crushed root of this herb with Green Tea, Rose Petals, Lavender and Chamomile and boil these in water.

You should then strain the liquid and apply the water on your skin. It enables the pores of your skin to open up and absorb the healing properties of these herbs. It alleviates moderate to severe itching of the body.

Aloe Vera

This herb is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory. This makes it an ideal cure for body itching caused due to infections, rashes, dryness or build up of sweat. You can apply the extract of this herb taken from the leaves, or even Aloe Vera gel which is readily available.

You can also combine Aloe Vera extract with Lavender oil and apply this to the parts of your skin which are itching. Aloe Vera ensures that the irritation in the skin which is causing the itching is dispelled.

Basil

Basil is also an efficacious herb for fending off body itching. This is because this herb is antiseptic and antibacterial in nature. Therefore it can stop body itching caused due to reasons as far ranging from insect bites to dermatitis. This herb is ideal for easing and alleviating the itching and also soothing and healing the skin.

You need to crush fresh Basil leaves into a paste and apply this paste in areas where you are experiencing the itching. You will get relief from the condition following regular applications of this paste on the affected areas.

Chamomile

Chamomile is antibacterial and antiseptic. This makes it an excellent cure for dealing with body itching. Chamomile is also an analgesic so it helps in soothing the irritation and soreness associated with repeatedly scratching the skin where it is itching.

It also prevents the advancing of infection in the areas which are itching because of the fact that it is antiseptic in nature. Chamomile leaves can be boiled and the liquid in which it is boiled can be soaked in a compress, which can then be applied topically to benefit from the healing effects of this herb.

Tea Tree

Tea Tree oil can be extremely effective in warding off unwanted body itching. This herb is able to heal dermatitis and also prevent dryness and itching in the skin that may result from exposure to infections. As this herb is antifungal in nature, it can eliminate the infection causing skin conditions.

Tea Tree oil can be added to bath water and this can then help you to get relief from body itching and conditions such as jock itch. You can also add 1 tablespoon of Tea Tree oil to Lavender or Olive oil and massage your body with this mixture to get freedom from persistent body itching.
