Fatigue, a term synonymous with the feeling of tiredness, lethargy, exhaustion is one of the most widely spread lifestyle disorder. Two out of five people have been found to face this anomalous condition. Major causes of fatigue or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) are lifestyle factors, medical conditions or psychological problems. Poor sleeping cycles, unhealthy eating habits, stressful lifestyle are some of the contributing factors. However various medical conditions like hormonal imbalance, anemia, thyroid disorders may play a role too. Here is a list of some of the herbs that have been found to effectively combat fatigue.

Ginseng

Used since ancient times, Ginseng has been found to help manage chronic fatigue very effectively. One very common cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is stress, which ginseng has long been known to prevent. There are many breeds of Ginseng, the one most widely used for fatigue is Siberian Ginseng. It increases the body’s ability to handle stress and reduces fatigue. Ginseng also increases alertness and naturally supports healthy adrenal function and hormone levels, allowing it to be tapped for treatment of fatigue. Power-packed with antioxidants, it also boosts immunity.

Licorice Root

Licorice root contains a chemical constituent called glycyrrhizin which has been found to enhance the body’s cortisol activity, increase energy and in turn, reduce fatigue. Furthermore, licorice enhances the immune system and provides energy almost immediately. It acts in a manner similar to steroids and boosts the body’s production of adrenaline, which helps cope with anxiety and stress. Chewing on a piece of licorice root at the onset of the symptoms of fatigue is highly effective.

Gingko Biloba

The use of Gingko biloba dates back to around a million years. It is an excellent fatigue-fighting herb which helps reduce fatigue and boosts energy. In cases of fatigue, the adrenal gland suffers due to oxidative stress, which brings about an increase in free radicals. Gingko Biloba has been found to protect the adrenal glands, the brain and the liver from damaging free radicals. It is grown in many gardens and there are a ton of marketed preparations of this super herb.

Maca Root

Maca root has been found to significantly help in the case of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). It is known to regulate the hormonal balance in the body and also boost energy and vitality. Loaded with Vitamin B, it has a positive effect on the glands of the endocrine system. It thus regulates the hormonal levels in the body and ensure high energy levels, organ functionality and reduced fatigue.

Astralagus

Astralagus has been commonly used to reduce weakness associated with muscle soreness. Astralagus boosts vitality and provides bursts of energy, in turn reducing fatigue. It also has impressive immune system-boosting effects, which make it an ideal choice for treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and its allied symptoms.

Alfalfa

This herb, often termed as a nutraceutical has been used to increase appetite and aid digestion, which provides the body with energy and increased functionality to combat the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Alfalfa can improve cognitive ability and reduce anxiety and stress, which play a key role in acquiring fatigue and weakness. Alfalfa not only boosts the immune system but also enhances the production of hormones, which counter stress and anxiety.

Green Tea

A cup of refreshing green tea is another ideal way to combat stress related fatigue. Green tea leaves contains polyphenols that help reduce stress, boost energy and the immune system. It has also been found to give an energy boost and improve mental focus. Drinking a cup of hot green tea once or twice a day is very advisable to help combat fatigue.
