8 Effective Herbs For Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are usually caused in females and small children. These are piles that result after the veins around anus get inflamed and swollen. These are of internal and external types and cause huge pain, itching and burning sensation inside, outside or around the anus. Severe cases may include bloody stools along with swelling.

These piles also affect bowel movement. Though there are a number of medications available for treating piles, trusting the herbal and natural remedies would be more beneficial as they don’t have side effects.

Medicinal herbs are available in capsules or ointment forms that relieve the body from pain and itching. These wonderful herbs have anti-inflammatory properties that treat hemorrhoids and related symptoms.


Effective Herbs for Hemorrhoids

Comfrey Roots

Comfrey is a medicinal herb used in organic gardening. It stimulates the formation of new skin. Comfrey roots have anti-inflammatory properties and its powdered form is used for treating hemorrhoids. A paste can be prepared from comfrey roots by mixing it with fish, flaxseed or olive oil. It can be applied on the affected area at night and can be washed off during morning bath.

Comfrey leaves are also very beneficial as their powdered form can be used to make a paste with oils and applied over the infected part. Comfrey contains allantoin that helps in damaged cell replacement. It shrinks all haemorrhoids outside the anus.


White Oat Bark

Powered form of comfrey roots and white oat bark mixed with cocoa butter can be taken before going to sleep. Both are medicinal herbs that rejuvenate tissue damage. White oat bark contains tannin and quercin that have therapeutic properties. It also helps in bowel movement. It shrinks the tissues that are swollen and reduces bleeding.

Tannin binds with the protein of the tissues and provides protection against bacterial infections while quercetin strengthens the veins and capillaries. It also contains minerals like calcium, magnesium, manganese etc. Having antiseptic properties, it acts as an astringent. It protects from viral infections and treats wounds. It is a medicinal herb that reduces burning.


Witchel Hazel

It acts as an astringent and reduces hemorrhoids bleeding. It is prepared from leaves and bark of Hamamelis virginiana. It is used as topical medication in the form of medicated pads, liquid or ointment. Witchel hazel contains tannins that have astringent properties and reduce inflammation of veins.

It also contains flavonoids, procyanadins and resins that have anti-inflammatory properties. It shrinks the swollen tissues and controls bleeding. It reduces pain, itching and recovers injuries. Pregnant women should consult the doctor before using witchel hazel. It is also useful for reducing intestinal secretions in case of bloody stools.


Butcher’s Broom

It has anti-inflammatory properties and recovers tissue damage. It is also known as Ruscus Aculeatus. It can be consumed in the form of tea or capsules. The tea prepared from butcher’s broom can be bitter in taste. To make it sweet, honey can be added. It can also be combined with witchel hazel for making an ointment and getting relief from pain.

It contains Sparteine alkaloid that inhibits sodium ions passing through the cell membranes and helps in contraction of uterine smooth muscles. After consuming this herb, veins constrict and swelling gets reduced. It increases blood flow and regulates blood circulation. It acts as a diuretic to draw out water from the cells which prevents water retention. Used as a capsule or tea, it is also used in topical medication in the form of an ointment or compress. Having strengthening properties, it heals and prevents ailments.


Horse Chestnut

It is recommended in poor circulation of veins. Bark and seeds of the plant are used; other parts are poisonous. It reduces swelling and inflammation caused by hemorrhoids. It can be consumed as capsules or in the form of tea. It should not be eaten in the raw form as it contains poisons that can cause death. Horse chestnut extract helps in blood circulation. Substance contained in horse chestnut thins the blood and makes it hard for the fluid to leak out from veins and capillaries.

It strengthens the blood vessels and reduces inflammation and swelling. It can be used for external hemorrhoids. Those allergic to horse chestnut should avoid its usage. The substances contained in horse chestnut include tannins, flavonoids and hydroxycoumarins. Horse chestnut is also beneficial in the ointment form. Before applying horse chestnut ointment, one should sit in bath tub containing warm water for 10-15 minutes.


Chamomile

Having inflammatory properties, it is effective in the form of cream, compress or oil. Chamomile soothes stomach irritation. It contains A-bisobol chemical which helps in repairing the tissue and another chemical named Chamazulene that has anti-inflammatory properties. Chamazulene shrinks the tissue, reduces pressure and inflammation.

Azulene present in chamomile kills infectious bacteria. It helps in curing digestive problems and food poisoning. It has sedative properties and heals stomach injuries. Chamomile in the ointment form reduces redness, itching and burning around the infected area. It can be applied directly over the swollen veins.  It can also be consumed in the tea form or applied directly on the hemorrhoids.


Myrrh

Myrrh is a thorny tree that is helpful in lessening pain. It reduces swelling and killing the bacteria. It is one of the important ingredients of an ointment used to cure hemorrhoids. It has antiseptic and therapeutic properties. It enhances blood circulation, draws out blood near the infected area and cures rashes. It helps in contraction of uterus and provides relief from pain. It cleanses the digestive tract and helps in detoxification.


Bayberry

Bayberries are leafy bushes that help in reducing pain. It strengthens and cleanses mucous membranes. It is a safe herb and can be used in the form of tea, cream and herbal supplement. It also promotes blood circulation within the body and helps in replacement of damaged tissue. It kills bacteria responsible for skin infections.

It is effective for topical medication and treats the swollen veins. It helps in digestion and removes the disease causing material from alimentary canal. It is also a good remedy for bleeding hemorrhoids. Bayberry contains a number of chemicals like tannins, triterpenoids, resins, flavonoids, myricitrin etc. that make it a powerful astringent.
