8 Natural Treatments For Swollen Lips

Tissues in lips are soft and sensitive. Even if little amount of force is applied on lips, it may cause rupture of tissues, bleeding which ultimately results in swelling of lips. There are many reasons due to which lips can swell. Using low quality lip products like lipsticks may cause swollen lips. There are many other reasons like insect bite, dehydrated, infection, and deficiency of nutrition, allergy, and injury. Swollen lip looks embarrassing. To avoid embarrassing situation instead of using chemicals, one may use simple home remedies to cure swollen lips.

Here Are Natural Treatments For Swollen Lips:

Cold Compress

This is one of the best remedies for any type of swelling. It is really effective for the swelling in lips caused due to lip piercing. One should take eight to ten ice cubes in a towel and place it over the swollen area. It should be done for ten to fifteen minutes. This has to be kept in mind that always cold compress should be used. This should be followed several times a day. Ice cubes should not be placed directly over the swollen lips as it may result in mild frost bite.

Hot Compress

It is as good as cold compress. Using hot compress increases the blood flow in the swollen part. Hence, increased blood circulation results in quick healing of the swell. A cotton ball should be dipped in hot water. This cotton ball should be placed on the swollen lip. This reduces the pain and inflammation caused due to swollen lips. It should be done several times a day. This is an all-rounder treatment for swollen lips.

Moisturizing Lips

Moisturizing lips in case of swollen lips will effectively cure swollen lips. A medically certified lip care can be used over the lips. Lot of water should be consumed. It will keep the skin hydrated. It also has many positive effects on body. Moisturizing lips will heal the swollen lips quickly. It is best for swelling caused due to insect bite.

Aloe Vera

It is one of the conventional methods. Also, it is herbal cure which has been used by Indians since ages. Aloe Vera gives soothing effect on the swollen lip. Aloe vera is anti- inflammatory in nature. And hence helps in curing swollen lips. Aloe vera should be applied on swollen part. This should be done several times a day. Also, aloe vera gels are now easily available in stores.

Tea Bags

Tea is rich in a compound called Tannis. Tannis is an excellent astringent. Astringents help in reducing the swelling of the soft tissue of the lips. Also, it will give soothing effect and lessen the inflammation. Tea bag should be soaked in warm water for ten to fifteen minutes. It should be allowed to cool down and should be placed on the swollen part of the lip. This should be repeated twice or thrice a day.

Honey

Honey is the fastest remedy to get rid of swollen lips. It has anti- bacterial properties. And hence is really effective in curing swelling in lips. It treats infections, inflammation and swelling in lips. Cotton ball should be dipped in honey. Using the cotton ball honey should be applied on the swollen lip directly. It should be left on the swollen part for fifteen to twenty minutes and then should be cleansed off with cold water.

Turmeric

Turmeric is one of the most ancient methods. Also, it has customary and religious value attached to it. It is antiseptic in nature. Hence, it effectively cures the swelling. An awesome paste can be made using turmeric to cure swelling in lips. Equal parts of turmeric and fuller’s earth, which is commonly known as multanimitti should be mixed in water to make a thick paste. This herbal paste should be applied over affected area.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is effective on swelling caused due to insect bite or allergy. A paste of baking soda can be made by mixing two or three spoons of baking soda with water to make a thick paste. This paste should be applied on swollen lips. It should be left until it dries out. Then, it should be rinsed off with cold water. This should be repeated several times a day.

Diet

Including food products rich in vitamin B and C will help in reducing swelling in the lips. These are essential for maintaining skin health. Vitamin B reduces the swelling and inflammation in the skin. Vitamin C heals the ruptured skin. All the citrus food like orange, kiwi, and pineapple are rich in vitamin C.
