A pulmonary embolism is a blockage in the arteries of the lungs caused due to the arrival of blood clots in the lungs from parts of the body such as the legs. Pulmonary embolism is generally a complication associated with deep vein thrombosis. Pulmonary embolism can become fatal if left untreated. Along with medical care, natural cures can also be followed to make the person healthy again.

A combination of the correct diet and exercise can ward off this condition. Herbs such as Red Clover, Gingko Biloba, Turmeric and Red Clover can also be used to treat this condition. In this article, we will explore some of the top natural cures for pulmonary embolism. Please consult your doctor before opting for any of these natural cures.

Excellent Natural Cures For Pulmonary Embolism

Leafy Green Vegetables

Lack of vitamin K leads to excessive bleeding and clotting. As pulmonary embolism is caused by the traveling of a blood clot to the lungs resulting in arterial blockage, foods rich in vitamin K are very vital for warding off this lung condition. Foods high in vitamin K include all types of green and leafy vegetables. Vegetables such as parsley, spinach, broccoli, collard, kale, celery, radish leaves and turnip greens.

Cabbage and lettuce are also very effective in healing pulmonary embolism. You can consume these vegetables in the form of soups, broths, gravies, dishes and salads. Leafy, green vegetables are also high in other nutrients such as folic acid and folate. This boosts the natural healing process of the body.

Healthy Diet

It is important for persons who have developed a pulmonary embolism to eat a healthy diet. Avoid excessive fats and cholesterol building foods in your diet. This is because a diet high in unhealthy fats such as trans fat and saturated fat can lead to conditions such as arteriosclerosis which cause clotting and result in this condition. There is a direct connection between low cholesterol and healthy arteries. Therefore, you should eat whole grains, organic foods and non-processed foods for gaining benefits.

Eat plenty of lean meats, fruits and vegetables. Ensure that your diet is high in fiber. Processed foods contain bad fats and chemicals as well as additives which make the person suffer from complications such as pulmonary embolism. Therefore, a person diagnosed with this condition should ensure that he or she follows a healthy diet.

Swimming

Water exercises such as swimming tone the body and keep your weight in check. As obesity is correlated with pulmonary embolism, it is very vital for a person suffering from this condition to take up health promoting exercises such as swimming. Swimming lowers the chance of developing a pulmonary embolism. It also prevents the intensification of the symptoms of pulmonary embolism by promoting a healthy cardiovascular system and a strong heart.

This exercise improves your endurance, strengthens your heart and increases the rate at which you breath thereby making the lungs stronger. If you are a beginner, you should start by swimming for short lengths and then graduate onto longer lengths to ensure that you are fit and healthy as well as able to eliminate pulmonary embolism.

Ankle Flexions

Flexing your angles improves the circulation in your legs and prevents unhealthy clotting which results in the development of pulmonary embolism. You can sit on a chair and point your legs forward.

Then flex you toes outwards so that the ankle is stretched. Repeat this exercise with your alternate ankles for best results. Ankle flexions improve the flow of blood in your legs and enhance the ability of your body to have regular and healthy blood flow. They also improve the flexibility of your legs.

Walking

Taking regular, gentle walks can improve the state of your health. It can also heal pulmonary embolisms by promoting good circulation in the body. Walking also safeguards against the development of further embolisms in the body. Walking boosts the immunity and makes the person agile and healthy.

Walking for about 20 minutes in a day will strengthen your heart and lungs and clear the arterial blockage by promoting a healthy blood flow in the body. Ensure that you consult a doctor before formulating a plan regarding the frequency with which you walk in day and the time period for which you will engage in this exercise.

Ginger

Zingiber Officinale is the botanical name of this herb. Ginger is useful for improving the circulatory health of the body. Gingerols found in this herb give it anti-inflammatory properties as well. Ginger is especially effective for this condition because it is a natural blood thinner. Its blood thinning properties inhibit and prevent the formation of clots. You should chew the raw, fresh root of this herb for relief from pulmonary embolism.

You should also brew tea using the sliced roots of this herb and drink the tea with regularity to ensure relief from this condition. Ginger root can be crushed and added to milk or hot drinks and also consumed in this way for availing the benefits of this herbal remedy.

Turmeric

Curcuma Longa is the Latin name assigned to Turmeric. This herb is effective in treating the symptoms of pulmonary embolism. Chest pain is one of the symptoms of this condition. Turmeric possesses pain relieving properties. You can crush the dried root or rhizome of this herb into a fine powder and add it to hot water or milk and drink this for beneficial outcomes.

You can also use Turmeric powder for seasoning your dishes and gravies. In fact, this herb is regularly used as a spice in Indian kitchens where it is called Haldi. Turmeric can prove to be very effective in improving cardiovascular health and easing the flow of blood in the body.

Gingko Biloba

This herb has been used as an energy tonic and restorative for the body in traditional Chinese medicine. Gingko Biloba is known to promote good circulatory health and longevity. Gingko Biloba is a potent anti-inflammatory. This herb also prevents the formation of blood clots.

As pulmonary embolism is caused due the arterial blockage of the lungs resulting from blood clots, Gingko Biloba is an ideal natural cure for this condition. Gingko Biloba also dilates the blood vessels thereby ensuring good circulation in the body. This further helps in recovery from this condition.

Red Clover

Trifolium Pratense is the Latin name of this herb. Red Clover is full of isoflavones which heal several lung conditions including pulmonary embolism. This metabolic diuretic herb is also an expectorant with lymphatic action. Red Clover tea can be consumed to keep the arteries of your lungs healthy.

You can brew tea from the flowers of this herb and consume it regularly with consistency to ensure relief from the symptoms of pulmonary embolism and prevent the recurrence of this condition. Pregnant or lactating women should not use this herbal remedy.

  • Interesting, because I was already swimming, walking and doing other exercise and eating spinach salads, broccoli and fish before a pulmonary embolism was found. If you ware taking a blood thinner such as Xarelto, do any of these natural foods have a bad interaction. I know that if you are taking Warfarin, you should not eat foods high in vitamin K, such as leafy greens. It is fine to eat leafy greens when taking Xarelto. But what about ginger and other blood thinning natural remedies? I can't take ibuprofen or other Nsaids because I am taking Xarelto and it may cause bleeding. What can we take for inflammation and pain? (Not Tylenol for me!).
