Cholesterol can be easily managed with various herbs that are readily available in fresh and dried forms. These herbs are also sold in Ayurvedic medical stores in powdered and capsule forms. The best way of using herbs to lower cholesterol is by adding them in your daily diet.


9 Herbs To Lower Cholesterol

Garlic

Garlic contains Allicin and it prevents hardening of arteries by breaking up cholesterol in blood vessels.

Regular use of garlic in your daily diet helps to lower cholesterol level. It prevents heart ailment and high blood pressure.


Ginger

Ginger is a stimulant and it helps to melt fat from blocked arteries to lower cholesterol level. Ginger can be eaten fresh with your meals or it can be consumed in dried form which is known as sonth. Dried ginger powder is used as spice to flavour the dishes in Indian cuisine. It is very beneficial for keeping cholesterol level under control.


Celery

Celery roots are eaten as salad and are used in soup and vegetables. Celery has a pungent smell; it regulates the function of arteries and promotes blood circulation.To lower cholesterol level; take juice of celery mixed with carrot juice in equal proportion.


Saffron

Saffron is an expensive herb and is used as a flavouring agent in Asian cuisine. However it has cholesterol reducing properties as it contains an active chemical substance called Crocetin. You can take ¼ tea spoon saffron with skimmed warm milk to lower cholesterol.


Ginseng

Ginseng is an energy booster and it is widely used in herbal medicines to enhance vigour and vitality.

It contains Ginsenosides, a component which helps to break down cholesterol in arteries and expels it from the body. Ginseng is a powerful herb and it should be taken in small doses.


Psyllium

Psyllium contains soluble fibre and is a useful herb for lowering cholesterol. It expands when soaked in water and it helps to reduce bad cholesterol. Regular dose of one tea spoon Psyllium husk soaked in a glass of water should be taken every morning on an empty stomach to lower cholesterol.


Triphala

Triphala is a combination of three herbs namely Amla, Harad and Bahera. This combination is extremely useful in lowering cholesterol level and in treating heart ailments.

Take one tea spoon Triphala powder dissolved in half a glass of warm water at bed time to reduce cholesterol.


Turmeric

Turmeric is used in daily cooking in Indian cuisine to give colour and to enhance the flavour of dishes. It has many health benefits. Turmeric contains curcumin, a chemical known for its clot preventing properties. Turmeric helps to lowers cholesterol level by dissolving accumulated fat from blood vessels and arteries.


Arjuna

Arjuna is a remarkable herb for maintaining heart health and keeping cholesterol level under control.

The bark of Arjuna tree is used to prepare a decoction and taken once a day to lower cholesterol level. Take ½ tea spoon Arjuna powder and boil it in 2 cups of water till it is reduced to half. Strain the mixture and drink it while it is still hot.
