9 Important Health Benefits Of Tamarind

Tamarind is the tree for home gardens, versatile in use , cooking food or herbal or medicinal use, natural micronutrients and minerals present in it, extracts from the seeds and leaves which are beneficial for the health of the human body. Tamarind juices are famous in the parts of Sri Lanka, which has the sweet or sour flavor, due to the presence of xyloglucan, used as vegetables and food. Tamarind acts as antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial and releases toxins from the body along with the cleansing of the skin.

Here Are Some  Important Health Benefits Of Tamarind:

1. Liver Functions

Liver controls the functions of the body by removing all the toxic substances within the body converting it in the soluble water out of the body through urine [1] . The liver damages are mostly due to unhealthy living or having unhealthy food which hampers the health of the body. Tamarind can helps in reducing the damages of the liver functions, it contains tartaric acid that helps in the secretion of the enzymes, pectin, thiazols, sugar and pyrazines, that is said to be the liver tonic components. Intake of tamarind therefore helps in detoxifying the liver from the toxic substances obtained from the body.

2.  Reduces Fever

Tamarind contains the refrigerant agent which take part in reducing the fever in your body, the laxative and the carminatives, it is one of the traditional form of using medicines when you may suffer from stomach pain, diarrhea, jaundice and skin cleanser. Tamarind being a herbal medicine helps in reducing the fever, it works on the cold and cough, while mixing the tamarind with water to make the tamarind water juice and have it to reduce yellow fever or jaundice it works highly on such fevers due to the presence of the refrigerants [2].

3. Anti-Inflammatory

Tamarind contains anti inflammatory [3] properties that helps in  reducing the pain caused due to the rheumatid arthritis, the extracts of the leaves, seeds and the pulp is medicinally used because of the anti inflammatory property. It works on the wounds, cuts or injuries and itches, also works on the rashes due to insects, the polysaccharides present within tamarind appears to be the reason to treat the bacterial keratitis, that helps in reducing the wounds and the pain. Therefore various types of lotions, creams and herbal medicines are made from the pulps and extracts of the leaves and seeds of the tamarind.

4. Digestive Disorder

Tamarind helps in ailing the digestive system, it reduces the gastrointestinal problems [4], due to the presence of the xyloglucan using enzymatic digestion and partial hydrolysis, the seeds of the tamarind are used in the form of powders or spices in the cooking of the food which provides the ailment of the digestion.  Tamarind works on the stomach disorders such as diarrhea or stomach pains and  improves the process of the digestion. The digestion disorders that may be internal wounds or swollen can also be reduced through the anti bacterial property of tamarind.

5. Boils

Boils are infectious diseases that causes inflammation on the skin, it can be contagious and can spread easily throughout or other parts of the body, the boils may also contain the bacterial infection [5], that may be painful and may be of various reasons,  therefore tamarind water or paste are applied on the boils to reduce the boils and the itches or redness caused on the skin due to insects, it works as locally too, due to the antiseptic and antibacterial properties that helps in the reduction of the boils appearing on the skin. The eating of the tamarind can remove the toxins of the skin and easily cleanse the skin.

6. Eye  Visions

Cataract,  scotoma  causes difficulty in the vision  that can be reduced through the intake of the food or fruits containing riboflavin, thiamin and niacin, that are responsible for the improvement of the eye vision. Tamarind [6] contains thiamin and niacin which is necessary for a proper and improved vision of the eyes. The niacin plays an important role in oxidation which also water soluble vitamin , deficiency of niacin causes the dark eyes diseases that is children are not able to see the black board, so niacin is highly required for children, tamarind is one of the spice that has a good amount of niacin present in it, that helps in improving the eyes vision in children.

7. Anti-Bacterial

Tamarind water intake was found to reduce the bacterial infections [7] within the body, it shows a strong reacting activity on the bacteria E.coli that is responsible for stomach related diseases,  tamarind contains substances fufural and its derivatives are tetrazene, dioxalene that resists the works of bacteria. Tamarind water reduces the growth of aerobic bacteria, phenol and flavonoids present in the leaves have a strong reaction against the bacteria. Tamarind water helps in reducing the infection caused due to bacteria and lotions, creams are available that consists of the tamarind extracts can be applied on the skin, the stomach infections diarrhea, stomach cramps or nausea due to the bacteria, tamarind works as anti bacteria.

8. Magnesium

Deficiency of magnesium may lead to gastrointestinal problems, muscle tremor, vomiting, insomnia,  that may make the body weak, thus the proper amount or balance of magnesium is required within the body. Magnesium are the minerals present in various foods, natural intake of magnesium is possible because of the presence of it in the food or fruits, tamarind is enriched with the magnesium[8] minerals, it is one of the micronutrient, that keeps the body balance, maintain the strength of the bones and the muscles, which can be taken in food or as tamarind juice.

9. Iron

Iron is an important micronutrients, deficiency of iron may cause anemia which leads to the presence of less hemoglobin in the blood, generally it is found in women, it may lead to the chronic blood loss in the gastrointestinal tract, inflammation and bleeding within the urinary tract, presence of the iron[9] reduces the health problems, tamarind contains iron which is one of the micronutrient , it is found in medicinal uses that can be able to reduce the anemia and any  other types of the blood loss diseases in the body.
