Anxiety is a state of mind in which the behavior of an individual gets affected. Every individual faces anxiety in their normal life but if this anxiety becomes persistent and affects the daily life of a person then it becomes generalized anxiety disorder which occurs without any reason.

The anxiety affects the normal lifestyle of a person and sometimes it becomes so intense that it takes the life of a person. Some of the common causes of anxiety are nervousness, any kind of worry, fear etc.

The basic symptoms of anxiety are headache, restlessness, lack of patience, difficulty to concentrate etc. Some other physical changes are also noticed in some cases like excessive sweating, fatigue, indigestion, tightness in chest and bloating.

Research is giving lot of medicines and drugs to cure anxiety but when it is related to some emotional instances then all the drugs fail to give results. When a person is under emotional anxiety then he/she don’t want to come out of it and do not want to take any medicine.

In such a situation giving him/her herbal remedies like in the form of tea or infusion is a better idea.The herbal remedies that help to get rid of anxiety are as follows:

Passionflower

Passionflower is a very good herb for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia. The person who takes this herb has improved job performance as compared to other drugs. This herb is not suggested for pregnant and lactating mothers.

If you feel like vomiting, nausea and increase in the heartbeat then this herb is not advised for you.It is available in the form of extract and pill.The combination of passion flower,its stem and leaves is also available at drug stores.


Valerian

The herb valerian is a herbal remedy for insomnia. This herb is effective  for the treatment of mild anxiety. It has to be taken before going to bed. It is available in the form of liquid extract, tea and capsules form.

If you don’t like the smell of valerian tea and extract then taking it in the form of capsule is the best option. This herb starts showing results after 2-3 weeks and it is not advised for more than three months. The dosage should be as directed only.


Kava

Kava is an anti-anxiety herb .It should be taken in a small quantity as over dosage may damage the liver. Due to its seductive properties some of the person has taken over dosage which have damaged their liver and they had to take liver transplant.

Kava herb has sedative properties. This is the reason that it is used to give relief from anxiety. This herb can be used for the patients of insomnia. This herb is not suggested for use more than three months. It should not be taken when a person have to stay active due to its seductive nature.

The availability of this herb is in the form of tablet, capsule and liquid extract. This herb is a famous herb of south pacific islands. It also gives relief from intermittent nervousness.


Catnip

Catnip tea gives a soothing effect on mind. This herb gives relief from anxiety. Catnip tea also strengthens the nerves. This herb was grown first time in Europe and later grown in European countries as well.

Catnip helps to treat headaches and any other body pain. The catnip is available in the form of capsules in combination with other herbs.


Hops

Hops herb gives a relaxing effect on the nervous system. This herb can be taken in the form of capsules, tincture or tea. It has soothing properties which makes it appropriate for insomnia, nervousness and restlessness. This herb should not be taken for more than three months regularly as it may cause stomach or menstrual disorder.


Skullcap

Skullcap herb has sedative and antispasmodic properties which help to maintain a healthy nervous system.

This herb gives relief from nervous tension, anxiety, insomnia, headace, agitation and depression.


Lavender

Lavender oil is used for aromatherapy and to give relaxation to the body. The lavender oil can be used as massage oil. The fragrance of lavender oil relieves depression.

Fennel seeds are available in the form of extract, tincture and tablet form. Fennel tea can be made by boiling fennel seeds in water.


Chamomile

Chamomile herb is used for the treatment of mild anxiety. Chamomile tea can be taken to get relief from anxiety and stress. The flowers of chamomile can be kept in your bedroom to get soothing effect.


Rhodiola Rosea

This herb is an adaptogen which is good for the treatment of anxiety.


Ashwaganda

L-Theanine

L-Theanine is an amino acid that is present in tea. When this herb enters the brain the psychoactive properties reduces the mental and physical stress.


St. Johns Wort

St. John wort inhibits the process of neurotransmitters, serotonin, morepinephrine and dopamine. These all have very good anti-depressant properties. The st.john wort is available in the form of pills and extract.


Ginkgo Biloba

This herb improves the blood circulation and the mood swings are minimized. This herb has the least side effects.


Meadow Sweet

Meadow sweet herb helps to give relief from headaches that occur due to any kind of anxiety and stress. This herb is available in the form of tea, supplements and liquid extract. This herb is not recommended for children and heart patients.


Melissa Officinalis
