Best Home Remedies For Itchy Skin
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is an intensively soothing agent. The moment you apply it over your skin, you would be able to feel the calming effect. It also has anti-inflammatory effects which would cure any swelling caused by scratching skin. Infact, if your skin itches due to some kind of infection then aloe vera would work wonders. It will kill all the problem causing micro-organisms and relieve your skin.
All you need to do is, take a fresh aloe vera leaf and tear it to obtain the gel. Apply the gel over affected areas and you will soon feel the difference. Follow the procedure every night before you sleep until the problem is completely cured.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is basic in nature and works by neutralizing any acidic content over skin. Also, it makes conditions unfavorable for survival of micro-organisms. In case your skin itches as a result of some microbial activity or due to fungus growth, you should try a baking soda bath. Alkalinity of baking soda would kill all the micro-organisms, making your skin cleaner and itch free. Just add one-fourth cup of baking soda i your bath tub and soak for 15-20 minutes.
Gently dab your skin with a towel after bathing. Do not rub the towel as it may cause irritation. Another way of using baking soda is by applying it directly. Since, direct application of baking soda is difficult, so it is better to make a paste. Take one teaspoon of baking soda and add a little water. Water is required only to make a smooth paste, hence use a little of it. Mix the two properly and apply over affected areas. Let the baking soda work for around 20 minutes after which it can be rinsed.
Ice Pack
Using an ice pack is a temporary relief of the problem. It would not do anything to the itching or to your rashes, it will just make your skin numb. Take two or three ice cubes and wrap them in a towel. Use this ice pack over affected areas. Slightly press the affected areas with this towel for atleast 10 minutes. Then allow the skin to rest for next 10 minutes.
Repeat the procedure until all the ice in towel melts. The ice will make your skin numb and you will not be able to feel the itch. In case you cannot bear the ice pack for 10 minutes over your skin, start with lesser time (say 2 minutes) and gradually increase it. You will definitely feel relaxed. But use this remedy only if the condition is extreme as it does not provide any benefits and just minimizes your senses. Make sure not to use ice directly over your skin, it may cause damage.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is anti-inflammatory in nature. It contains polyphenols compound called avenanthramides which are responsible for the anti-inflammatory property of oatmeal. They also work in soothing the skin and avoid all the consequences of inflammation including itching. Fill your bathtub with warm water and add two cups of colloidal oatmeal in it.
The oatmeal would come upto the surface of water. Wait for around 5 minutes so that the effects to oatmeal enter into the water. Finally, relax into the bathtub for 20 minutes. Make sure to dry your skin by dabbing with a towel instead of rubbing. Rubbing might cause irritation and rashes.
Olive Oil
If your skin itches due to dryness then you should try olive oil. Olive oil will help in packing moisture in your skin and will keep it hydrated. Take a little olive oil in your palm. Rub your palms together in order to warm the oil a little. Apply the oil all over the affected areas. Allow olive oil to work for around 10 minutes. Later wash it off with a mild wash and apply a moisturizer. The best way would be to use olive oil before bathing, since it can be washed off while you bath.
Lemon
Lemons have antiseptic properties ad can be used to soothe itchy skin. Keep lemons in fridge for about 20 minutes. Cut a slice from the cooled lemon and juice it out in a small bowl. Dip a cotton ball in the lemon juice and dab over affected areas.
Let the lemon work for 15 minutes after which it can be washed off. Do not use lemon in case the affected area has cuts. In case you have a sensitive skin, dilute the lemon a little. Take a tablespoon of water and add 2 or 3 drops of lemon to it. Mix well and apply the mixture over affected areas for 15-20 minutes.
Honey
The sweet and tasty honey can help you in getting rid of itchy skin. Honey has anti bacterial properties. It kills all the harmful bacteria that reside on your skin and cause itching. If itching is caused due to dryness, even then honey works well. It helps in hydrating your skin by keeping moisture packed within itself.
Take little honey and apply it with your finger over all the itching areas. Let the honey stay undisturbed for 15 minutes after which it can be washed off. If honey looks too sticky to be used over skin, you can mix it with milk to form a paste. Take milk and honey in equal amounts and mix them together. You will end up with a less sticky paste which can be used over affected areas for 15-20 minutes.
