Dark circles under the eye can develop in both men and women, irrespective of age. It often occurs when fluids collect behind the thin skin under the eye, resulting in the appearance of dark or shadow-like uniform smudges.
Getting permanently rid of such dark smudges under the eye can be very difficult but with modern technology such as laser procedures one can lighten the dark smudges. But such procedures can be expensive and can be accompanied with minor side effects; hence, a better option are home remedies that might take time to eliminate dark under eye circles but are often safe and can be performed at the comfort of your home.
Lack of sleep, genetic factors, and even health problems can result in dark circles under the eye. If you are latest victim of it then you can either resort to expensive treatments or over-the-counter creams and lotions or safe homemade solutions for removal of dark under eye circles.
If the area under the eyes looks dark then the first thing to do is to drink water.This will help in flushing the excess sodium and lightening the darkened circles around the eye.
Under eye circles can also occur due to nasal congestion and to eliminate such occurrences one can use saline wash to alleviate dark circles around the eye. To make the perfect saline solution, mix ΒΌ teaspoon of sea salt with warm water and rinse out the nasal congestion and this will help in eliminating dark circle problems.
Dark circles can also be eliminated with a paste of pistachios and chilled milk. Once the paste is made, apply the paste under the eye for 30 minutes. After the lapse of time, wash it off with warm water. Repeat this on a daily basis and within a couple of weeks, you will be able to notice positive results.
Lack of sleep is one of the most common causes for dark under eye circles; hence, it can also be eliminated with proper sleep. Adults need approximately nine hours of sleep and proper rested adults can avoid the appearance of dark circles under the eye. Also, one can help alleviate such condition by elevating their head and preventing the fluid from collecting under the eye causing dark circles.
Dermatologists also recommend cold-water compress to remove dark circles. Though it cannot eliminate the problem permanently, it can temporarily reduce the discoloration. For best results, one can also use chilled spoons to treat dark circles.
One of the most well-known homemade treatments for dark circles is cucumber slices. One can cut two slices of cucumber and place it over the eye to treat dark circles. Additionally, one can also mash cucumber pulp and use it around the discoloration for 15 minutes before washing it off. Known for its astringent effects, cucumber pulp can constrict blood vessels and also reduce the discoloration under the eye.
Like cucumber, potatoes are known to contain starch and citric acid that can help in treatment of dark circles under the eye. To make the dark under eye remedy, peel raw potatoes and grate and apply it on the area for 15 minutes. The starch will reduce the irritation and also eliminate the appearance of dark circles.
Another effective under eye circles home remedy is to make a mixture using lemon juice and cucumber juice. Mix a small amount of lanolin cream into the juice and apply it under the eye on a daily basis for approximately 15 minutes. Use the mixture before bed rather than during the day time as it can cause irritation if exposed to sun. Also, if you notice redness or sensitivity, one must wash off the mixture immediately.
Treatment of dark under eye circles is also possible with an oil mixture of chamomile essential oil and jojoba oil. Mix one part of chamomile oil with five parts of the jojoba oil and massage it under the eye on a daily basis. Leave it on for approximately 20 minutes before you wash it off and apply a light moisturizer. Done on a daily basis, this will help in lightening the dark circles and also smoothen the skin under the eye. Always run a patch test before you start with the oil application. In case you do notice any irritation or redness then avoid applying it because the skin under the eye is thin and sensitive and you might cause serious damage to it.
