Food poisoning sickens millions of people all around the world. Just think who does not get atleast two bouts of stomach hurt due to contaminated food in a year? Commonly, bacteria found in poultry and milk causes most of the food poisoning health issues. It can be treated successfully at home but if not taken care of, it might prove to be life threatening as well.

Its symptoms in infected people may range from being completely unaffected to a bloody diarrhea or severe dehydration. So, as soon as you suspect food poisoning it will be good to take some measures at home for a smoother recovery. Let us look at a few remedies easily available at our homes.

Home Remedies For Food Poisoning

Lemon

Lemon being acidic in nature has potency to fight off bacteria, hence it is known as a good anti bacterial. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties as well to survive the infection.

Prepare lemonade with some sugar and a pinch of salt in water and keep sipping it through the day.


Ginger

Ginger is commonly available at our homes for an easy remedy for many ailments. It is specifically known as a cure for all digestive disorders and has a lot of other virtues.

Add a few drops of ginger to a teaspoon of honey for flavoring and consume it several times in a day. This is also a powerful anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. It immediately settles nausea and stomach cramps. You can also use the powdered ginger (saunth) in a cup of buttermilk for cure.


Garlic

Garlic is found to be much better than various anti-biotics present in market. Diallyl sulphide is a compound present in garlic that helps healing from bacteria that causes food borne illness.

If the smell does not bother you much, you can try to gulp in the juice of some garlic cloves or try to take 2-3 cloves of garlic with water.


Basil

Basil is another great anti-bacterial full of anti-inflammatory contents that can fight off the food infection easily. Pound few basil leaves to derive the juice and mix it with honey to sweeten. Take this 2-3 times a day for a faster action.


Cumin

Cumin seeds help to soothe inflammation in digestive tract. Cuminaldehyde content that gives a unique flavor to this seed is a powerful agent that can help block bacteria from food poisoning.

Roast ½ teaspoon cumin seeds with 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds, sprinkle it in curd and flavor it with salt, this will make a very good home remedy.


Peppermint

Peppermint is a great anti-oxidant and helps removing the toxins from stomach. Prepare an infusion by adding a few leaves of mint in boiling water and let it steep for 5 minutes and flavor it with honey. Take the infusion 2-3 times a day.

While you are still on therapeutics, it is important to remember a few things to speed up the healing process. Eat mild food which is non-oily and non-spicy. It is also very important to keep yourself hydrated so that the toxins get an easy exit from the body. Carefully cook the food to ensure effectiveness of these remedies.
