Glaucoma is the second main cause of blindness. It is a type of eye disease in which the optic nerve of the eye got damaged in a characteristic pattern. It can damage the vision or may lead to blindness. This problem arises due to the increased fluid pressure in the eye.

This increased pressure is known by the name ocular hypertension with intraocular pressure in the eyes. The optic nerve is responsible for the process of carrying images from the retina to the brain for the comprehension of sight.

Many people face high eye pressure for years and never observe any damage in the eyes while some other develop nerve damage with relatively low pressure in the eyes. This damage is known as glaucoma. Bilberry

The herb bilberry belongs to the family of cranberry. It has excellent antioxidant properties which help to increase the blood circulation and minimize the eye problems.

It improves the visual activity and prevents any type of eye disorder like glaucoma. You can take this herb in the form of capsule, pill or extract form.


Forskohlii

Forskohlii belongs to the mint family. This plant is used for decoration and it has got medicinal properties also.The blood pressure is lowered with the use of this herb and this helps to reduce the eye pressure in the glaucoma.You should use the dried root or fresh leaves of this plant to make an infusion and get relief from eye problems.


Caliber Bean

The herb caliber bean reduces the eye pressure and the constriction of the muscles in the pupil. These properties help to treat the problem of glaucoma. The dried seeds powder is very effective for glaucoma when taken regularly and in the right dosage.


Ming Mu Di Huang Wan

This is a Chinese herb that is very much beneficial for eyes. It helps to improve the liver and kidney functions also. All types of eye disorders like glaucoma, night blindness, photophobia, cataracts and fatigue in the eyes can be treated with the help of this herb. It should be used only under the supervision of an oriental medical doctor.


Ginkgo Biloba

Gingko biloba herb helps to overcome the damage caused to the eyes due to glaucoma. Ginkgo can be taken in the form of tincture, teas and capsules or make ginkgo tea as an infusion. The recommended dosage is 40 mg thrice a day for a period of one month.

This herb should not be used if you are taking MAOI for depression or any type of blood thinners. This herb acts as a tonic for the body and energies you even of you are feeling stressed out.

However some of the herbs are very dangerous for the people suffering from glaucoma. Some of the herbs that should not be taken in any form are ephedra, belladonna and bloodroot as they can lead to increased heart and metabolic rate, constriction of the blood vessel and dilation of the pupils.
