5 Remedies For Boils On Face

Share

Boils on face are furuncles that are infections of the hair follicles. They look like red, swollen, round bumps and are filled with pus. The bacterium Staphylococcus aureus is responsible for boils. Boils are highly contagious and release toxins. The over use of antibiotics or anti-bacterial soaps or any immunosuppressive drug can cause accumulation of the staphylococci bacteria on skin leading to formation of boils.

Boils can also be a result of diabetes or malnutrition. Boils on the face can be treated at home using herbal remedies involving single herbs or poultices made from different kinds of herbs. Some of the best herbal remedies are discussed here:

Herbal Remedies For Boils On Face

Wild Indigo

Wild Indigo contains cytisine and anagyrine (pyridine-like alkaloids) that are responsible for the herb’s immune stimulating properties. Using this herb reduces pain and uneasiness caused by the boil by making the area naturally resistant to the infection.

Boil the root extracts in water, rinse, prepare a paste and apply to the infected area. It can also be consumed orally as a decoction or tincture form as directed by the physician.

Betel

Betel leaves are highly beneficial in treating skin infections. It is rich in calcium, carotene, riboflavin and niacin. Betel leaves (especially the oil extracted from them) are often employed to cure boils. You need to warm the leaf till it becomes soft.

Then coat it with a layer of castor oil and spread the oiled leaf over the boils. Replace it every few hours till the boils burst and release all the purulent substance contained within. Simultaneously the betel leaf’s constituents speed up the healing process.

Turmeric

Turmeric’s antimicrobial properties make it very useful in curing skin conditions such as eczema, allergy, sores and boils. This is because of the active compound present in it called curcumin which has a wide range of helpful biological effects that make turmeric a staple for medicinal purposes.

Apply turmeric powder directly on to boil. If the boils are fresh, roast dry turmeric roots, dissolve the ashes in water and then apply over the infected area. This solution lets the boils burst and drain out pus.

Parsley

Parsley is very effective in treating skin infections such as boils because of the high presence of antioxidants such as luteolin in it. Steep the vegetable in boiling water till it becomes juicy and soft.

When it becomes lukewarm, wrap it in a clean muslin or linen cloth and apply to the infected area as a poultice. Simultaneously, you can also use it in your food as condiment or as a flavoring agent.

Purple Coneflower

The roots of these plants have been used to cure skin ulcers and septic wounds since as early as the 1800’s. The roots contain polysaccharides, essential oils and alkaloids that make them medicinally beneficial. It can be used both orally and topically.

Echinacea ointments are available in pharmaceutical stores which can be applied directly to the affected area. Echinacea constantly produces white blood cells to fight the infection while aiding in the growth of new tissue.

The above mentioned herbal solutions can provide great relief if you are suffering from boils on your face.
