30-40 milligrams of this herb can be brewed as a tea, and can be consumed for about 4-6 weeks. 40-120 Milligrams of this herb can also be taken orally or in powdered form or in the form of a tincture every day twice or thrice.
The bright yellow flowers of the Arnica plant are used for medicinal purposes. The dried flowers can also be used to prepare medicines. Arnica has been known to reduce inflammation and pain and it is one of the herbs used as herbal remedies for concussion.
Though Arnica is considered to be toxic, it can be helpful if applied as an ointment on the affected part, but not when the skin is open or irritated. As homeopathic pills and pellets too, patients can take Arnica. This herb can be taken as a tincture too. When taking as homeopathic pills, you can take 4 pills or pellets, at an interval of 2 hours during the first 24 hours of the incident that caused the concussion.
The scientific name of this herb is Achillea millefolium. Sometimes nicknamed the Devil’s Nettle, yarrow is used today for several medical conditions like a concussion.
Said to be introduced by the great Achilles to heal the soldiers of his army, this herb has a lot of history going around it too. It is soothing and contains Tannins and Flavonoids. Internally Yarrow can be in the dosage of 20 drops daily.
Also known as Stachys officinalis, this herb belongs to the Labiatae Mint family. Mostly the flowers and the leaves of this herb are used to produce medicines. It grows well in temperate climate and was well regarded by the Native Americans, and is also sometimes called “Herb for the Head”.
An infusion can be prepared with 1-2 teaspoons of this herb and 1 cup boiling water. This can be drunk thrice daily. A tincture can also be made with this herb, which can be taken in the dosage of 2-6 ml thrice daily.
Known scientifically as Hypericum perforatum, St. John’s wort is an herb which is used extensively as one of the herbal remedies for concussion. It is said to be blessed with properties that make it an anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory herb.
This herb also contains chemicals such as hyperforin and hypericin. It can be consumed orally in the dosage of 900-1800 milligrams every day. For children, when consumed orally, the dosage used in clinical trials has been 150-1800 milligrams.
These herbs are the most common natural remedies for concussion. Along with these, some other natural remedies like cayenne, oats, and Gotu Kola can be helpful in treating this condition.
