11 Remedies For Diabetes

Diabetes is caused by insufficient production of insulin by pancreas or it is also caused by inability of cells to consume insulin properly. It results in rise of blood sugar level.

Diabetes can damage your vital organs like kidneys, heart and brain if it is not managed in early stages. Though it cannot be permanently cured but you can effectively control your blood sugar level with herbal remedies.

Herbs are safe to use and they seldom cause any side effects. You must consult your doctor before starting any herbal treatment.


11 Herbal Remedies For Diabetes

Fenugreek

Fenugreek has immense medicinal properties. It is highly effective in treating diabetes. Regular consumption of fenugreek can keep blood sugar level under control for long periods of time. You can use fenugreek in different ways to treat diabetes.

Soak 1 tea spoon fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Next morning chew the seeds and gulp them down with warm water. You can make fenugreek sprouts and eat 1 tea spoon of sprouts with your meals to lower blood sugar level.

To make fenugreek sprouts: Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight, strain the seeds and wrap them in muslin. The seeds will sprout in a day. You can store them in fridge for 2-3 days.

Fresh fenugreek is equally beneficial. Eat fresh fenugreek vegetable or mix it with wheat flour to make rotis. You can also eat fenugreek in form of saag (gruel) with rotis to reduce blood sugar level.


Bitter Gourd

Bitter gourd or karela is easily available all around the year. It is an effective remedy for diabetes as it improves insulin sensitivity in body. Take 15 grams of bitter gourd juice diluted in 1 glass of water and drink it first thing in the morning.

It has a cleansing effect and it improves insulin resistance. Eat bitter gourd vegetable once a day to reduce blood sugar level. Bitter gourd peels can also be cooked with onion and spices to make vegetable. Bitter gourd peels contain essential vitamins and minerals that help to treat diabetes.


Amla

Amla or Indian Gooseberry is a wonder herb. It contains a high amount of vitamin C and thus it helps to reduce blood sugar level. No matter how you consume it, amla does not lose its medicinal properties.

Extract the juice of one amla and mix it with 15 ml. of bitter gourd juice. Drink it every day for two months to treat diabetes. This mixture stimulates the pancreas and improves the secretion of insulin.

Mix equal quantities of amla powder, jambul (jamun) fruit powder and powdered dried bitter gourd. Take one table spoon of this mixture twice a day with meals to control diabetes. Take one tea spoon dried amla powder mixed with curd with your meals. It helps to strengthen pancreas.


Jamun (Indian Blackberry)

Jamun is most effective herbal remedy to treating diabetes due to its hypoglycemic properties. It is used in Ayurvedic medicines since time immemorial to stimulate pancreas and to increase insulin secretion.

Jamun is a rich source of vitamin C, potassium, phosphorous, calcium, carotene and minerals. Take 1 tea spoon jamun seeds powder 3 times a day to lower blood sugar level.

It tones up pancreas and boosts the production of insulin and help to control sugar level in blood stream. Jamun is a sweet fruit that can be safely consumed by diabetics.


Mango Leaves

Fresh mango leaves are used in herbal remedies for diabetes. The new leaves have a pink and rust tone and they turn green after maturity. Take 10-12 fresh mango leaves, wash them thoroughly and soak them in water overnight.

Next morning squeeze the leaves and drink the water to control blood sugar level. You can dry fresh mango leaves in shade, grind them to make powder. Store it in an air tight jar.

Take 1/2 tea spoon powder twice a day with water to treat diabetes. You can also chew 8-10 fresh mango leaves in morning. Spit out the pulp and take in the juice to reduce blood sugar level.


Basil

Basil is a holy herb with immense medicinal properties. It improves the flow of energy in body; it is useful for treating various types of ailments and allergies. In Ayurvedic medicine all parts of basil plant are used in one way or another to cure many diseases.

Basil stimulates insulin production and helps to convert glucose into energy. You can use basil in various ways to reduce blood sugar level. Chew 5-7 basil leaves on an empty stomach. You may dry basil leaves in shade, grind them to make powder and eat ½ tea spoon powder in morning with warm water to treat diabetes.


Curry Leaves

Curry leaves are also known as sweet neem. It is widely used in Indian cuisine. It has immense medicinal and curative properties. Curry leaves help to treat diabetes by strengthening the liver and by stimulating insulin secretion in pancreas.

Chew 10-12 curry leaves in morning to reduce blood sugar level. Grind curry leaves to make a paste. Add seasoning to taste and eat it with your meals as chutney.


Butea

Butea is known as Palas, its tree bears orange flowers which create a beautiful effect in the landscape. Butea leaves have medicinal value to treat diabetes. It arrests the presence of sugar in urine and help to reduce blood sugar level.


Garlic

Garlic is considered the best herbal remedy to treat diabetes. Garlic helps to repair pancreas cells and stimulate insulin production. Garlic contains, sulphur, iodine, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorous and iron.

Eat 2-3 garlic pods in morning on an empty stomach to lower blood sugar level. People suffering from IBS should avoid eating raw garlic. They should add it to their vegetables.


Cinnamon

Cinnamon helps to block the formation of free radicals. It increases the capacity to convert glucose in energy, thus it is a beneficial herb to treat diabetes.

Dissolve ½ tea spoon cinnamon powder in half a glass of warm water and drink it 15 minutes prior to your meals to reduce blood sugar level.


Precaution

You should start taking herbal medicines in small doses and observe its effect on your system. Gradually increase the dose to reach the prescribed amount.
