Herbal Remedies For Mononucleosis

Mononucleosis is a disease caused by Epstein Barr Virus (EPV). It can spread through saliva or through mucus produced by the nose and throat. It usually affects teenagers and young adults; even if children are affected the symptoms are milder.

Mononucleosis is associated with symptoms like high fever, sore throat, swollen tonsils and fatigue. It can even lead to the swelling of the spleen. The monospot blood test is the most authentic way of diagnosis of this disease. Some of the effective herbal remedies for mononucleosis are as follows.

Best Remedies For Mononucleosis

Astragalus Root

Astragalus root can serve as a very effective treatment for mononucleosis. It is best if astragalus root is taken in the form of herbal tea though capsules are also available. Take 10-15 slices of astragalus root and chop them into small pieces.

Take 2-3 cups of water in a saucepan and bring it to boil. Add the dried root slices and simmer in medium heat for few minutes. Strain the liquid and drink this tea 2-3 times daily. And if you are taking the capsule, make sure of checking the expiry date.

Lemon Balm Leaf

This herb belonging to the mint family is also very effective in treating mononucleosis. Take about 5-6 lemon leaves. Boil a cup of water and add the leaves. Steep for few minutes and strain the liquid.

Drink this tea twice daily to get desired results. This herb is also used as a remedy to treat diseases like ADHD, Alzheimer’s disease, Graves’ disease etc. It is better to avoid the herb if you are pregnant or lactating.

Ginseng Root, Golden Seal Root And Burdock Root

This is one of the most effective herbal remedies for mononucleosis. Boil about one teaspoon each of ginseng root, cayenne, burdock root and goldenseal root in 2 cups of water. Boil this mixture till the amount reduces to at least half of what you started with.

Cool it down and then strain the mixture. Fill a cup with this mixture and ingest it twice daily. An instant relief to the throat will be provided. This will also help in fighting the virus effectively. Keep having this mixture till the symptoms vanishes.

Garlic Or Ginger

Garlic is famous for its antimicrobial qualities and is used in the treatment of many infectious diseases. Eating 2-3 garlic cloves in empty stomach, early in the morning for about a week can cure mononucleosis.You can also add garlic in recipes you cook. You can also add ginger strips to your regular tea to get soothing effect.

Dandelion Tea

Take fresh dandelion leaves and wash them properly to remove dirt. Keep them inside a plastic bag which has holes and dry them. Take about 1 teaspoon of dried dandelion leaves and add to 1 cup of boiling water.

Cover the cup and steep for about 5 minutes. Stir and again steep for 2-3 minutes. Strain and drink this herbal tea to get relief from the symptoms of mononucleosis.

Make sure you lead a healthy lifestyle. Diet should be consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain cereals, lean meat or eggs. Drink plenty of water to keep your system clean. You can also drink cranberry juice and other fluids to stay hydrated. Avoid junk food, tobacco and alcohol. Take plenty of rest and gargle using salt water. Use any one of the above herbal remedies for mononucleosis.
