Herbal Remedies for Morning Sickness

Most of the women face problem of nausea in their pregnancy that occurs mostly in morning and can last all the day for few of them. Morning sickness is more in the initial weeks of pregnancy and reduces in the second trimester. It is observed more in first pregnancy than second. Some of the herbal remedies that help to fight morning sickness are explained below.


Effective Herbal Remedies for Morning Sickness

Ginger

Ginger is one of the common remedy for the treatment of morning sickness.Doctors, naturopaths and health practitioners recommend ginger to pregnant women. The dosage of ginger should be one gram a day that should be given multiple times for a period of three weeks or so.

The root of the ginger contains gingerols and shogaols that relaxes the intestine and relieves nausea. The ginger can also be taken in the form of ginger tea. Ginger tea should not be taken more than three times a day. Some sources say that ginger is not safe for pregnant women as it contains an enzyme known as thromboxane synthetase that affects the sex steroid differentiation in the fetal brain but this is not confirmed yet.


Peppermint Essential Oil

The peppermint oil helps in nauseous stomach. Take a big bowl containing hot water. Pour few drops of peppermint essential oil into it and keep it where you will sleep.

It should be kept on a safe place so that it cannot spill. Alternately you can use an aromatherapy diffuser which is available at some of the drug stores.


Fennel

Fennel is a Chinese herb that helps in nausea and help to get rid of morning sickness. The fennel seeds contain an anesthetic compound that helps to reduce the chances of vomiting. The fennel seeds can be taken by making tea from it.

The process of making the tea from fennel seeds is that crush one spoon of fennel seeds in a grinder .Put the crushed fennel seeds into a glass and add boiling water into it .Cover it with a lid for ten minutes. The drink is ready for you. You just need to take sips to avoid morning sickness.


Lavender

Some particular smells like that of frying, scents, deodorants and dirty laundry become unbearable for pregnant women. To get rid of those bad smells you can use lavender.

Put some lavender oil drops on the handkerchief that you use and breathe into it when any odor is disturbing you. This remedy is very easy and will help you to get rid of those irritating smells.

Mint

The mint has an anesthetic property that helps to minimize the nausea by decreasing the stomach’s gag reflex. Whenever you are feeling morning sickness just brew a cup of mint tea.

The mint tea can be made easily by adding some mint leaves into a jar of boiling water. Strain the water after boiling it for half an hour.


Thyme

Thyme oil can be used as a soothing agent when you are under the grip of any kind of bad smell that worsens your morning sickness. Thyme oil can be used in combination with lavender oil.
