Found as tablets and teas, St. John’s Wort is quite an anti-depressant as it can inhibit the activity of monoamine oxidase, serotonin receptor expression and serotonin reuptake as well as reduces cytokine expression that causes depression. Since ages, this herb has been used to alleviate the symptoms of psychosis. The patient can consume it through tea at least twice a day to get best results.


Ginseng

Used as an Eastern folk medicine for thousands of years, Ginseng is one of the best herbal remedies for psychosis. Derived from the root of the Panax ginseng, this herb is known to treat mood and anxiety disorders, the primary reason for psychosis.

It also somewhat acts as a stress buster and reduces fatigue. The key ingredient in the herb is known as ginsenosides, typical steroidal saponins that target tissues and forces them to pharmacologic responses that increase a person’s ability to endure.


Valerian

The root extract of Valerian has great healing properties that are used as a sedative, antidepressant and anxiety remover. It is primarily used to treat insomnia and anxiety disorders.

The extract consists of iridoids, furanofuran lignans, sesquiterpenes of the volatile oil and free amino acids ranging from tyrosine, glutamine, GABA and arginine all of which work synergistically to produce response.


Ephedra

Found mainly in China and tropical areas of Asia, the extract of this evergreen herb has been used to promote increased energy, weight loss and mood enhancements.

One of the best herbal remedies for psychosis, the extracts of this herb consists of ephedrine type alkaloid which is a sympathomimatic agonist. It enhances cardiac rate and has a wide range of functions that include peripheral vasoconstriction, bronchodilation, ability to contract and relax and controls stimulations from the central nervous system.


Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo biloba finds its origin in the ancient Chinese medicinal history. The herb has been known to cure memory impairment and serious dementia.

Other than these, ginkgo biloba has also been used to treat fatigue, stress, cerebral trauma, chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency, anxiety, depression and a certain level of hallucination. Its anti-oxidant properties and the presence of compounds like flavonoids, terpenoids and other organic compounds help in achieving diminished hallucination. All in all, ginkgo biloba is an excellent psychosis reducer.
