5 Remedies For Skin Abscesses

Skin abscess is small tender lump that can be easily pressed, as it has debris and pus in it. It is usually pink in color and swollen.  It is painful when touched. It can lead to complications if it spreads under the skin and can sometimes cause fever.

It can develop due to minor breaks on skin, obstruction in sweat glands, in grown hair and inflammation of hair follicles. It can pave way to microbial infections. Herbal remedies have found to be useful in treating skin abscess and preventing further infections.

Herbal Remedies For Skin Abscesses

Agrimony

The herb has powerful vulnerary effects. It can be used both internally and externally to treat skin conditions. It promotes skin health and it can be used to treat cuts and skin rashes. It is also used to reduce hemorrhoids. When applied topically on the skin, it acts as a mild astringent and lessens redness and swelling.

It has anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and astringent properties. Many skin conditions like abscesses, wounds, bruises and cuts can be treated with this herb. It is a rich source of vitamin C, K and B.  It has flavanoids, essential oils, ascorbic acid and silica. A strong decoction prepared using the herb can be applied or used as a compress on the affected area or the tea infusion can be consumed for treating the same skin conditions.

Witch Hazel

It has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be applied topically to treat skin abscesses, wounds and bruises.  It constricts the capillaries under the skin and reduces itching.

The bark and leaves of the herb contain tannins in high quantity, which have astringent properties. It tightens, dries and hardens the skin tissues. It tightens the pores and stops the oil secretion. It soothes the skin, reduces pain and swelling, and shrinks the abscesses. You can soak cotton in witch hazel extract and apply it topically on the skin abscesses for quick healing.

Calendula Officinalis

The herb has been used from ancient times to treat skin abscess, bruises, wound, cuts and other skin ailments. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and astringent effects. The herb promotes skin health and restrains bleeding of skin abscesses.

The dried flowers can be used as compress or applied directly on the skin abscesses as cream. It stimulates the regeneration of the epithelial tissues and restrains any scarring. It works effectively until the abscess is healed.   Calendula salve can be applied on the abscess for fast healing.

Tea Tree

It is a natural antiseptic, especially effective in treating skin conditions due to bacterial infections. It heals inflammations of skin. It is found to be equally effective as benzoyl peroxide in treating redness and skin sores.

It helps in regeneration of the cells aiding in quick healing of the skin abscesses. It has anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Either you can apply tea tree oil directly on the skin abscess or as compress or you can take a bath by adding tea tree extracts to the bath.

Gotu Kola

The herb has the ability to promote skin health and nurture it. It benefits the connective tissues and makes them strong. It stimulates the regeneration of the tissues in the affected region. It is effective in treating skin abscesses, wound and other skin related problems.

The active substance, asiatic acid stimulates the synthesis of collagen, which are vital for repairing skin damages. It relieves skin inflammation and pain. Gotu kola extracts can be simply rubbed on the affected area for impressive healing.
