Snoring is not a disease but sometimes it is associated with a sleep disorder known as apnea. So it is advisable to reduce snoring. Most of the people who are in the habit of snoring are not even aware of the fact that they snore which becomes a major reason of disturbed sleep for the person sharing the bed.

Some of the reasons of snoring are chest and nose congestion, obesity, tonsils, allergy and common cold. There is no dearth of medicines for snoring but they are expensive and sometimes give no result.


7 Effective Herbal Remedies for Snoring

Immature Bitter Orange

Immature bitter orange contains synephrine which helps to give relief in allergies and nasal congestion. It has high amount of vitamin C which is good to increase the immunity and has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

But the precaution that should be taken is that it should not be taken in large doses as synephrine is a stimulant.


Jasmine

The chest and nose congestion will be cleared when the vapors of jasmine oil are inhaled. The airways that are blocked by the phlegm and mucus get cleared with the help of jasmine essential oil. When the air passages are clear then the person will not snore.


Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus oil contains eucalyptol or cineole which is recommended by naturopaths for the treatment of many diseases.

The cineole reduces the inflammation in the respiratory system and stops the production of mucus in the nose. Any other kind of viral or bacterial infection can be cured by eucalyptus oil.


Peppermint

The snoring is reduced when the vapors of the peppermint oil are inhaled. The throat spray can be made by mixing essential oils with water and can be sprayed in the throat at bedtime to avoid snoring. It is advised to consult a doctor when snoring indicates that you are suffering from sleep apnea or any other kind of respiratory illness.


Echinacea

Echinacea herb helps to avoid the chances of cold in a person. When the cold increases it becomes a respiratory problem like bronchitis which is a major reason for snoring.

The echinacea can be taken in the form of capsules. The dosage that is recommended is 300 mg thrice a day.


Cayenne

Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin which helps to get rid of snoring. Capsaicin decreases the inflammation in the respiratory system and breaks the mucus that is a major cause of snoring at bedtime. The cayenne pepper can be taken in the form of tincture in water. It is safe to take it on daily basis and it is advisable for people who suffer from seasonal allergies.


Sage leaf

The sage leaf is a very effective remedy for snoring. But it has to be taken for at least three weeks continuously. The sage tea can be taken to reduce snoring.

The sage leafs can be kept in your bedroom as well. Boil some sage leaves in water for 15-20 minutes and have it before going to bed to get relief from snoring.
