Chamomile

Valerian

The extract of valerian is recommended for the treatment of various sleep disorders. When you will take regular doses of valerian extract then the quality of sleep will improve and decrease in nighttime awakenings will be observed. You can also take supplements of valerian of 400 mg every day. More than 400 mg dosage may lead to drowsiness in some people.


Passionflower

Passion flower relaxes the central nervous system. It is anti-spasmodic and soothes all the muscles. It is non-addictive. However this herb is not recommended for pregnant ladies. You can take this herb in the form of tea or supplements.


Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is a sedative herb and calms the body and gives a restful sleep. It is a stress buster and gives you a sound sleep. The main constituents of this herb are polyphones, tannin, flavonoids, rosmarinic acid, triterpenoids which help to relax your body.


Kava Kava

The herb Kava kava decreases the time taken to fall asleep. If a person takes a lot of time to fall asleep then that is known as sleep latency. You can take tea made from the herb Kava Kava.

However this herb may damage the liver so it should be taken in consultation with a doctor. Kava kava root powder can be taken by mixing it with one tablespoon of powder in a cup of water. You can also take it in the form of extract or capsules. But as this is highly sedative herb so it should be taken only in small amount.


Skullcap

The skullcap is of two types Chinese and America. American skullcap has sedative properties which help to cure the problem of sleep apnea. The main components of this herb are ascorbic-acid, calcium, lining, magnesium, potassium and zinc. The most common form to take skullcap is tea or tincture while you can also take it in the form of a capsule. Make sure that the tinctures are made from fresh leaves. The skullcap should be drunk hot to get better results.
