5 Remedies For Yellow Nails

The problem of yellow nails is the cause of some underlying disease and gives a yellow coating to your nails. Yellow nail is rather a secondary infection resulting from pleural effusion or lymphedema. Pleural effusion is a problem of lungs and lymphedema is abnormality of the lymphatic system. Both these diseases lead to fluid retention in the body and the result of this is a secondary infection of yellow nails.

Yellowing of nails can also occur if you are suffering from sinus infection for a long time, respiratory tract infection or from a fungal infection in nails. If you are not too keen on taking allopathic drugs to treat yellowing of nails, there are some alternative herbal remedies available.Some effective herbal remedies available to treat yellow nails are discussed here:


Yellow Nails Herbal Treatments

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil containing terpinene-4 and has antibiotic and antifungal properties. It is used for a variety of infections which includes yellow nails as well, if yellow nail problem is caused due to fungal infection.

Tea tree oil will be readily available in any pharmacy near your area. Get a bottle of tea tree oil and smear liberal quantity of the oil on your yellow nails two to three times daily. Regular use of this oil will gradually make the yellowish-ness fade away.


Rosemary

This herb is a popular treatment for yellow nails. Rosemary is a herb with a variety of properties. Rosemary has antifungal, antibacterial and antiparasitic properties all of which are very useful to treat yellow nails. This herb is also used as a disinfectant.

Thus, if the yellow nail problem has occurred due to fungal or parasitic infection or too much use of nail paint, this herb will be very effective as it reaches the nail interiors and treats the infection. Take two teaspoon of rosemary oil and mix it with one teaspoon of olive oil. Apply the mixture in good amount on the affected nails twice daily and slowly with regular use, yellow nails will be cured.


Goldenseal

This herb is an effective treatment for yellow nails because of its antibiotic properties. This herb is a brilliant topical anti-microcidal agent and is available as tincture in pharmacies. Apply some on the affected nails regularly twice daily to cure yellow nails from fungal infection.

This herb will also cure yellow nails caused from respiratory tract infection because being anti-microcidal, this herb cures upper respiratory tract infection. So to cure yellow nails caused due to upper respiratory tract infection, take ten to fifteen drops of the tincture once daily for a month.


Garlic

This is a perennial herb and is very effective for treating yellow nails. Garlic be used both topically and also ingested to treat yellow nails. Garlic acts as a very strong antibiotic and thus to use garlic for treating yellow nails, just smash some garlic and apply the juice in liberal quantity on the affected nails, three times a day regularly to remove the yellow coat. You can also ingest one clove of garlic regularly once daily in the morning to treat yellow nails.


Thyme

This herb belongs to the mint family and is used to treat yellow nails. Thyme has strong antibiotic properties and the essential oils in thyme have good anti-microcidal properties and both these properties are useful in treating yellow nails.

Thyme extracts are found easily in drugstores. You can take some thyme extract and apply it in liberal amounts on the affected nails. Do it regularly for a month twice daily to get rid of the yellowness from the nails.
