Abdominal pain is a pain in the lower abdomen that arises due to any reason. The diagnosis of the reason for stomach pain is difficult as this can be as a result of any disease. If the cause is serious then urgent medical intervention is needed to avoid damage to the body.

Acute abdominal pain is the severe and persistent pain in the stomach that arises suddenly and it may require surgical intervention for the treatment. The common cause of severe stomach pain is acute appendicitis. The stomach pain manifests between the chest and groin area.

There are numerous types of herbs that help in the treatment of stomach pain. Medical advice should be taken before taking these herbs so as to know about possible side effects and the recommended dosage of the herbs.


Herbal Remedies For Stomach Pain

Chamomile

Chamomile herb is antispasmodic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory that provides relief from stomach pain and helps to heal the mucus membranes. This herb will give immediate relief from pain if the pain is due to indigestion or gas in the stomach.

You can take this herb in the form of tea or steeped chamomile flowers in a muslin bag that makes an effective hot poultice to reduce swelling and ease the different types of pain in the body.


Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is a cholagogue, carminative and antibacterial herb that give relief from stomach pain and cramps. It helps to heal the gastrointestinal disorders of the nervous origin. This herb can be taken in the form of tea of lemon balm leaf or extract.The oil of lemon balm tree can be rubbed on the stomach to get relief from stomach pain.This herb is safe for the babies also.


Fennel

Fennel has mild expectorant, anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory and carminative properties. It helps to decrease the inflammation in the stomach and expels the gas from the gastrointestinal tract.

It also helps to decrease the spasms thus providing relief from stomach pain. This herb can be taken in the form of raw fennel seeds, tea or essential oil can be used for the massage and diffusers.


Ginger

The herb ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to increase the digestion .When the digestion of the body is proper then the chances of occurrence of stomach pain decreases. This herb can be taken in any form like ginger tea or supplements of ginger. Ginger candies should be avoided as they contain conventional sugar into it which can further upset your stomach.


Peppermint

Fresh peppermint is the best herb for the digestion. Just add a few sprigs of mint in a glass of warm water and drink it to settle your stomach. You can also chew the raw leaf of mint or supplements of mint.

Tea bags of peppermint are also available in the market. If you are going to buy peppermint candies then check the ingredients and avoid it if it contains sugar.


Licorice root

Licorice root herb help to ease out the digestion process and relieve pain. It is easily available in the form of supplements. High blood pressure patients should not take this herb in large amounts. It can also be taken in the form of tincture or liquid extracts.
