Herbs For Jet Lag

Jet lag is medically known as desynchronosis and can be categorized as physiological condition which results from body’s rhythmic changes due to travelling on an aircraft. Initially it was termed as “circadian rhythm sleep disorders”. Jet lag condition can last for several days until the person gets habituated to the new time zone. In this condition, the body’s natural biological clock gets disturbed as the person crosses different time zones.

This clock which is in the brain controls all your regular timely activities eating, sleeping etc. When a person suffers from jet lag, he or she might experience fatigue, headaches, lower appetite, indigestion etc. Thankfully, there are some simple herbal remedies that can cure jet lags. Some of the herbs for jet lag are:

Best Herbs For Jet Lag

Chamomile

This is a very effective herb to treat jet lag and can be given to both kids and elderly people. Take few dried chamomile flowers. Also, take a cup of water and bring it to boil. Add the flowers and steep for few minutes.

Strain and drink this herbal tea four to five times to get relief. You can add honey to enhance the taste. It is mild and has a nice flavour that makes it a favourite amongst many.

Passion Flower

Even passion flower extract can be given to restore the natural clock and sleeping pattern. Drink herbal tea made from passion flower to get results. Take a teaspoon of dried passion flower extract and pour boiling water over the top.

Cover the container and let the mixture steep for 10-12 minutes. Strain and drink this herbal tea two to three times for about a week to get positive results.

Hops

Hops as an herb is often used to get relief from stress and anxiety and hence is an effective herb for jet lag. It contains an acid called valerianic acid which relaxes the central nervous system and is a natural sedative.

It is also high in vitamin B6 and also in the other vitamin Bs. It is also an antiseptic and is used in the treatment of few other diseases as well. Take in infusion prepared from hops during the flight and also after that.

St. John’s Wort

An infusion made from the flowers of this herb can really be helpful in curing jet lag. Many travellers take this infusion few weeks before boarding a flight for best results. A tincture can also made from these golden coloured flowers. It has euphoric effects and can also help in overcoming fear related to flying and heights.

Ginseng Or Valerian

Siberian ginseng is yet another useful herb. Tincture made from this herb boosts the functioning of the adrenal glands and hence cure jet lags. It also improves the stamina. Valerian as an herb has been in use since ages to treat insomnia.

The roots and the rhizomes of this herb contain alkaloids and useful oils that can work as magic in curing jet lags. Use this herb as a tincture to relax your nerves and cure insomnia.These were few of the effective herbs for jet lag. It is important to stay hydrated and so it is best to avoid alcohol. Eat small meals and avoid spicy food.
