In simple words fistula is an abnormal connection between some particular structures of internal body, may be intestine, an organ, vessel, or some other structure. Fistulas can be due to some kind of infection, inflammation, injury, or an improper surgery. Diseases like Crohn’s diseases (a kind of inflammatory bowel disease) results into fistulas of intestine. Most common is anal fistula due to an inflamed abnormal tunnel between the skin and the anal canal.

There are some herbs which can treat fistulas at an initial stage and can give you relief from pain, itching, inflammation, and discomfort caused due to it. American Ginseng Root

American ginseng roots are loaded with a number of healing properties containing anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial substances which help heal fistulas and work as a barrier for further inflammation. You can easily get its supplements in the form of powder, capsules, and tinctures.

Try to take it from some renowned herbal shop and of a good brand for better results. Ginseng powder can be taken in teas, added to other soft drinks, or even used in cooking soups. Ginseng roots are also used as extracts, and in capsule supplements.

Dong Quai Root

It is basically a Chinese herb and its dried roots are used since ancient times to restore a healthy order to the body; the word ‘dong quai’ means proper order. This herb contains a very important substance called phytoestrogens which brings body’s natural estrogen into balance. It is a strong diuretic and has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antispasmodic qualities.

That is the reason it is very useful for fistula patients. You can take 1-3 tablespoons of fresh root dried powder, 2-6 grams of dried root powder, or 1 teaspoon of liquid extract daily to get rid of inflammation and discomfort of fistulas and to heal them properly.

Bugleweed

Bugleweed is also a very useful herb in the herbal world and used for various kinds of health problems. Bugleweed contains a substance called lithospermic acid which decreases levels of certain hormones, and its nerve calming and vasoconstrictor actions make it useful for pain relief in situations that involve irritability and tension.

It has strong anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic qualities which make it a perfect remedy for fistulas. You can use it as a herbal tea of take its supplements from herbal medical stores and take the dosage as directed.

Cranberry

Cranberries are used as a natural medicine for treatment of wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems. Being a natural anti-bacterial, cranberry juice flushes out all kind of infection and inflammation out of body and works as an antibiotics for fighting inflammation.

It is an amazing solution for fistula patients, as it heals wounds and keeps inflammation in control. You can also take its supplements in the form of capsules and powders.

Curcumin

Curcumin is the best anti-inflammatory herb and an effective pain reliever. Its medicinal properties such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities are self-explanatory for its excellent effect on fistula patients. It is recommended to take curcumin supplements to reap the maximum benefits for fistula patients along with using turmeric in their foods.
