If you have arthritis, you must keep the joints moving. Movement helps in the proper functioning of the joints. You can do activities like walking and gardening. Another way to keep the joints active is housecleaning. You must do simple and easy flexibility exercises. Aerobic exercises like swimming and playing tennis helps in toning muscles.
You must do aerobic exercises for half an hour daily. You must also do resistance exercises 3 times in a week. You can also do isometric exercises. Wrap the elbow and knee with a scarf. This helps in reducing pain. Do not wrap the scarf very tightly. You must wear stretch gloves. These gloves make the fingers tight which helps in decreasing swelling in the fingers caused by arthritis.
The hands become warm due to which the joints become healthy. You can wear thermal underwear also. You can wear electric gloves at night.
Excess weight causes joint stress. Therefore, control your weight. You must try to lose weight as it causes less pressure on the joints due to which the function of the joints become better.
Application of heat relaxes muscles and reduces joint pain. Compress the joints with the help of a hot towel. You can use a heating pad. Take bath with warm water. Pouches of natural grains are available many drugstores. You can heat the pouch in microwave and place it on the affected area. You must apply heat to the joints before you start exercises.
You must use cold compress to reduce pain. Cold compress is especially beneficial in gout. Soak a cloth in cold water and apply it on the joints.
Crush ice and fill it in a plastic bag. Before applying the cold pack to the skin, place a thin cloth in between. This helps in preventing frostbite.
Soak in water mixed with Epsom salt. Epsom salt contains magnesium, which helps in decreasing inflammation. It decreases the swelling and pain in the joints. Soak the feet in warm water to which Epsom salt is added.
Take foods that contain calcium. You must take low fat yogurt, or drink orange juice that contains calcium. You can also take calcium supplement. You must take 1000-2000 mg calcium daily. It is important to take Vitamin d along with calcium. Take foods that contain Vitamin D such as fish and milk.
If you suffer from gout, you must take fresh or tinned cherries. You can also make cherry syrup by boiling the cherries. Cherry contains magnesium and potassium, which helps in reducing inflammation in the joints.
Eat dandelion leaves in salads and sandwiches. Dandelion leaves contain Vitamin A as well as C. Dandelion helps in repairing the damaged tissues. It provides great relief in arthritis. You can also take dandelion root in the form of liquid extracts and tablets.
