Breast Lumps, also called Breast Mass is the inflammation or growth in the breast tissue causing mass accumulation on the breasts. These are usually painful, sensitive to touch and dark or red in color and can cause trouble in daily life. All breast lumps are not harmful or cancerous, but immediate attention should be given to avoid the situation from getting severe. Breast lumps can occur for both males and females of any age.
Men also have breast tissues that can get damaged or injured causing lumps. Hormonal imbalances, disproportional Body Mass Index, injuries, pregnancy, menopause etc. are various reasons for mass formation on breast tissues. The usual ways of treating breast lumps is through surgery (for cancerous lumps) or medicine intake (non-cancerous lumps) after proper diagnosis of the lumps with methods like physical examination, ultrasound, fluid extraction using fine needle, bioscopy or examination of any fluid discharge from the nipples.
Doctors also advise to prevent using natural creams and gels that contain ginseng as it is responsible for hormonal imbalance. For all teenage girls, it is advisable to do a self check for breast lumps on a regular basis to avoid the condition from getting worse and formation of cancerous lumps in the growing breasts.
At the same time, it is possible to naturally treat non-cancerous breast lumps using simple dietary changes, exercises and home care. Awareness of the changing needs of the body also plays an important role in preventing lumps formation.
Effective Home Remedies For Breast Lumps
Cold Compresses
For many women, lumps and pain in the breasts are caused before they get their periods off during the menopausal phase. Not for all, but most women have benefitted from the cold compressions done using ice cubes in an ice bag or towel.
All you have to do is take ice cubes in a generous amount and add a teaspoon of salt to it, use an ice bag or semi-thick towel to hold the ice. Lie down and keep the ice on bare breasts for about 15 seconds and then repeat the process. This can be done twice daily for immediate benefits.
Hot Water Soak
Hot water has many benefits especially when it comes to healing lumps and tissue mass in the body. Fill tolerably hot water in a bath tub and lie in it for about 20 minutes. Do this twice daily. Hot water has healing properties that loosens the mass formed and also improves blood flow in the body.
Another way to use is by soaking a towel in hot water and then using on bare breasts after squeezing out excess water. This can be done by women who are feeding breast milk too. For many, alternate hot and cold compressions have also been beneficial where hot compressions are done for first 20 minutes, followed by a 15 minute cold compression.
Whole Grains In Diet
Whole grains have twofold benefits to cure breast lumps. Firstly, it helps keep the system clean and healthy as fibrous food helps control the hormonal fluctuations which are the most common cause for lumps in breast tissues. Secondly, women who are overweight are seen to be more predisposed to breast lumps and fibrous foods help maintain body weight and fatty content.
With diet changes, it is also advisable to exercise regularly for improved blood circulation in the body. Spicy and oily foods should be avoided and weight has to be brought in proper control to prevent high levels of estrogen in the body.
Comfortable Innerwear
Wearing the right innerwear is necessary to support the weight of the breasts. With time it is important to move a size up instead of trying to squeeze into the old bras. Wearing tight and uncomfortable brassieres can lead to damage of tissues and glands that can cause lumps and inflammation of breast tissues.
Severe conditions may also cause clotting of blood that cause blue lumps in the breasts. At the same time, it is not advisable to wear very loose bras also, as improper support may lead to loosening of breast mass causing lumps. It is good to wear fashionable innerwear, but unless it solves the purpose it is a waste.
Organic Foods And Beverages
Drinks like tea, coffee, soda and alcohol contain methylxanthines that cause hormonal imbalances and trigger stress hormones that are a cause for breast lumps and should be avoided. Use of hemp oil, wild yam, organic meats and tea help maintain the hormonal balance in the body and reduce the chances of cancerous breast lumps.
Though there are no studies or evidence that has proved the theory that organic food has relation to breast mass but most women who switched to organic foods have benefitted and therefore it is recommended.
Breast Massages
With all the other reasons like hormonal factors, underwear issues, age and changing body structure, another cause of breast lumps can be improper circulation of blood in the tissues. To solve this, in many cases it is advised to use warm natural oils to massage the breasts in circular motions to improve blood flow to the tissues.
For women who are breast feeding, the probability of lumps formation is less compared to women who are not. Use slow and soft clockwise and anticlockwise motions to massage the breasts at least twice a day. You can also use hot bath or sock after a massage for additional benefit.
Heat Treatment
Heat treatment is given on breasts lumps when they are multiple and recurring. There are simple ways for it. Use uncooked rice and tie in a cloth and microwave for 30 seconds or soak a towel in water and squeeze out excess water from it. Now put it in the microwave and heat for about a minute. Take out the warm rice or towel and press against the breasts.
Another way of doing this is using hot iron on a thick cloth and then pressing the towel on the lumps affected breasts. There also are various heaters that are used to provide warmth for back and joint pains and other problems, you can also use those electric heaters to provide heat to the breasts.
