Share

A Cradle cap can be recognized when your baby develops a yellowish, greasy, scaly rash on his or her scalp. This condition is also known as honeycomb disease, infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis, crusta lacteal and milk crust. This appears normally in the first 3 months from the time the child is born.

It is not a serious problem and it hardly causes any kind of discomfort to the baby. It does not spread and this condition is not concerned with the way you take care of your child. The reason for this condition is not clearly known. It is very similar to dandruff in adults. Some home remedies for this condition have proven to be beneficial. A few of them are discussed below

Cradle Cap Home Remedies

Shea Butter

Shea butter is known to be rich in Vitamin D and works as an excellent moisturizer and easily enters the skin and gets absorbed. It is popularly used in several beauty products because of its several advantages and benefits. It is also known to cure eczema, psoriasis, dry scalp and dermatitis.

The advantage of using shea butter is that it does not make your hair or scalp oily, it does not block the pores and it gets absorbed into the scalp quickly. Moreover, it does not accumulate oil or dandruff. Thus, it is a great remedy, which could be done easily at home.

Baking Soda Paste

To treat your baby’s cradle crap the easiest way is to make a paste by mixing baking soda with water. Mix a portion of baking soda with water and apply it on the entire scalp. Take a baby comb or brush and slowly comb the baby’s hair and you will notice the flakes slowly being removed.

Mineral Oil

Generously apply some mineral oil on the baby’s scalp and leave it for two to three hours. After that wash the baby’s hair by applying baby shampoo and while washing the hair take a wet cloth and gently rub the scalp in circular movement.

Repeat this process a couple of times and then rinse it. You may have to do this many times to completely get rid of cradle cap, so it’s advised to do this many times in a week. This is safe and very effective.

Vinegar

Vinegar has the property of preventing the dead skin being formed. Dead skin is what creates scales or flakes on the scalp. Mix water and apple cider vinegar in the proportion of 2:1. Apply this mixture on the baby’s scalp, and gently massage it. Leave for about 10 minutes before bathing the child. Then rinse it well with water. This treatment is an excellent way to remove the flakes and heal cradle cap.

Coconut Oil

Every home would have coconut oil. This oil works exceptionally well in the treatment of cradle cap. Coconut oil is a dry oil and will not leave any oily residue on the scalp. It also possesses anti fungal qualities so just in case your baby has developed a fungal issue, coconut oil will help in getting rid of it quickly.

Apply some coconut oil and leave it for some time. Then comb the baby’s hair to slowly remove the flakes and then wash it off and pat the hair dry. This is a simple solution that works like magic.
