A dry socket is a condition where a problem arises in the process of tooth extraction and it often causes a lot of pain. It is caused when the bone, which is within the socket, is exposed because the blood clot is not formed in the socket after the tooth extraction. It is a very common condition and an extremely painful dental issue an individual can experience.

The other name for a dry socket is an alveolar osteitis. There are various home remedies to treat a dry socket. A few of them are mentioned below.

Home Remedies For Dry Socket

Ice Pack And Warm pack

An ice pack is effective in reducing the pain associated with a dry socket. Place an ice pack on your cheek where this condition exists. Make sure this pack is placed immediately after the tooth extraction.

It is supposed to be kept in the first forty eight hours and after that the ice pack should be replaced by a warm pack. This helps in reducing the swelling as well as the pain.

Clove Oil

Most of us are aware that cloves are effective in treating any pain associated with the teeth. Even in this case clove oil has yet again proven to be beneficial. To begin with, immerse a cotton swab on some water. Doing this will decrease the amount of sting that clove causes.

The second step is to dip this cotton in some olive oil and gently dab it on the socket that is affected. You can also dab it on the adjacent tooth if it causes any pain. Repeat this process two times a day to get some relief from pain.

Tea

The tannic acid found in tea has great healing powers. Take a cold tea-bag and place it on the affected area and gently apply pressure on it. The tannic acid will help in relieving the pain. The other thing you could do is, prepare some black tea and add a little salt to it.

After straining the tea, take a big sip while the heat is still there and rinse your mouth well and then spit-it out. Repeat this 3-4 times every day to speed up the healing process. Tea contains tannin, which has great anti-inflammatory and anti bacterial qualities and hence, it helps in relieving you from pain and prevents infection.

Saline Water

What can be a better remedy than saline water for this condition? Take some warm water, add salt, and use this solution to gargle. Saline water is an excellent treatment to help you get rid of the pain. Apart from just relieving the pain it also helps in getting rid of the food particles stuck on the socket of the tooth and cleans the teeth. The salt content in this solution helps in getting more fluid into the affected area and this enhances the healing process.

Jaggery

Jaggery is known to be a great remedy in the treatment of dry socket and has been used from ancient times. Take a small amount of jaggery and break it into small pieces.

Boil this to bring it to a consistency of a liquid. Dip a cotton ball in this solution and apply it on the affected area. Doing this gives great relief.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains friendly bacteria, which help in avoiding any kind of infection. Take some cool yogurt and gently apply it on the area affected, make sure you cover it either with sterile gauze or cotton if required. Doing this aids speedy recovery.
