5 Remedies For Fractures

Fracture is a condition where the bone is cracked or broken and needs immediate attention. It is important to set the bones in the right position. The healing process may take anything between weeks to months. Doctors normally use a cask to avoid movement of the affected area. By doing this the growth of the bone is facilitated.

Meanwhile, there are some home remedies that could be done to speed up the healing. Several home remedies are suggested for fractures. These are practical and easy to use and follow. The home remedies mentioned below have proven to be beneficial if followed correctly.

Various Remedies For Fractures

Pineapple

One of the most efficient home remedies for bones, which are broken or cracked is to eat fresh pineapples every day until the broken bone is fixed. Pineapples are known to have the enzyme called bromelain.

This is very useful for decreasing the swelling caused by the fracture. It is important to have only fresh pineapples and not canned or processed ones.

Elevation

The main thing that doctors recommend and what we are aware of is that when a person has an injury like fracture in areas like the leg, elevation is the first step in the healing process. Elevation means lifting the leg above the level of the heart.

This elevation can be facilitated using a sling. By doing this the bleeding reduces and you will be able to enhance the blood flow to the heart. You can also create an elevation by placing pillows under your leg and calf while watching TV or when you’re lying down.

Applying Ice

Ice packs are effective in reducing pain. As soon as you injure yourself the first thing you need to do is to apply an ice pack on the affected area in order to reduce inflammation. Never apply ice directly on the skin, it can cause ice burns.

Wrap the ice cubes in a towel and place it on the affected area. Do not keep it for a long time, it should be used at regular intervals throughout the day to relieve you from pain and will help in healing.

Rest And Immobilization

It is necessary to give enough rest to your fractured area. Orthopedic surgeons recommend rest as the primary solution in the treatment of fractures. Avoid any rigorous activity for at least 3-4 weeks.

By resting you avoid any movement of the affected area. This will prevent applying pressure on the affected area. In order to heal quickly, you need to give complete rest to the fractured area. Any vigorous movements will slow down the healing process and increases the recovery period. There are chances of bleeding too.

Wear Special Shoes

Choosing the right footwear is important in the treatment of leg fractures. Once you reach a stage where you are able to apply weight on your foot, you should use an appropriate footwear to treat the affected part.

A wide soled shoe is what orthopedic surgeons suggest. The toes should not be crushed inside the shoe, check if there is enough space inside. Do not wear tight shoes. Wearing wider shoes will facilitate quicker recovery.
