6 Remedies For Gingivitis

Gingivitis is a disease of the gums. It is one of the most common infections of the gums, also known as gingivae. Gingivitis must be diagnosed and treated in the early stages because if the treatment is delayed, the infection aggravates. This aggravated state of gum infection is called periodontitis.

Often, gingivitis is caused by bacteria, but there may be some other causes responsible for its onset. They are: alcohol intake, use of tobacco, smoking and deficiency of nutrients. Certain drugs and medications can also trigger gum infections. One can try some simple home remedies before contemplating a visit to the doctor or conjoin them along with you doctor’s treatment.


Home Remedies For Gingivitis

Clove or Cinnamon Oil

Either clove or cinnamon oil can treat the gum pain in no time. They not only act as anesthetics but act as healing agents as well. Any one of them can be applied directly on the affected area. Since these oils  are very strong, they should be diluted by putting one part of either of them to ten or fifteen parts of almond oil.

If clove oil is not available, keeping one clove on the affected area can also help. Clove oil can also be made into a paste by mixing it in peroxide powder. This paste can be applied with the help of a cotton ball.


Cinnamon Infusion

Cinnamon water is also known to heal infected gums. Take 500ml water and put into it one tea spoon of cinnamon powder. Bring it to a boil, strain it and divide it into 3 doses. Drink one dose of this healing cinnamon infusion thrice a day.


Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide powder can help you in getting rid of gum infection. To half a cup of water, add one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide, rinse your mouth with this liquid thrice a day. As an alternative you can also use baking soda. This should be used as a paste by mixing it with water. Apply this paste on your gums thrice a day. Both these will help you, specifically with pain and swelling due to gingivitis.


Holy Basil

Drink holy basil tea to look after gingivitis condition. Drink a cup of this tea thrice a day. To make one cup of this tea take one and a half cup of water and add 10 sweet basil leaves along with their stems.

Bring them to a boil on low heat, while covered with a lid throughout. Let them simmer for five to ten minutes. Add some sweetener and remove the leaves before drinking.


Saline Water Gargles

Gum infection pain can be excruciating. The infection can cause the inflammation of gum, saline gargles can effectively arrest this condition.

The gargling water can be prepared by mixing one tablespoon of table salt to one glass of warm water. Gargle your mouth with this water thrice a day till inflammation and pain subside.


Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is loaded with certain organic compounds which act as antiseptic agents. These compounds are known as terpinoids. Tea tree oil has antibiotic qualities as well, which make it a favorite agent to treat gingivitis.

While brushing your teeth, put one drop of tea tree oil on your toothpaste. Take care not to swallow tea tree oil, hence it’s important that you rinse your mouth very well after brushing your teeth.
