Herpes is a highly contagious viral infection that is caused due to herpes simplex virus. Basically, there are two kinds of herpes, one is oral herpes, which causes fever, blisters or cold sores around the mouth and the other one is genital herpes, which causes sores just below the waist.

In fact, the genital herpes is usually transmitted through sex and leads to blisters and pain in the genital region. This kind of herpes could be transferred by having intimate contact. Pregnancy, fatigue, stress, and hormonal imbalance are a few of the causes that lead to herpes. The infection can be mild to moderate, but in some cases it can be severe too. There are a few home remedies that could be used to treat herpes at home.

Home Remedies for Herpes

Aloe Vera

It is a well-known remedy that is used to treat various ailments, especially those related to skin including herpes. Various studies suggest that Aloe Vera has the potential to treat herpes infection. A double-blind study, which was conducted for two weeks, enrolled about 60 men with the problem of genital herpes. The enrolled participants applied the placebo or aloe cream (about 0.5% aloe) 3 times every day for five days.

It was noticed that the time taken to heal the lesions was reduced by using Aloe Vera cream and also the percentage of participants, who were completely healed increased by the end of two weeks. Aloe Vera is available in a tube or box in some of the pharmacies. Alternatively, the internal sap of a fresh aloe leaf can be applied to the herpes infection and for about 30 minutes. Repeat the process 2 times per day.

Black Coffee

Prepare black coffee as usual and allow it cool. Once it is cooled, strain the concoction and the residue that is left in the mug is applied on the herpes to cure the ailment. This is a good cure for oral herpes.

Tea Bag

Dip the tea bag in warm water and apply the concoction on the affected part. Leave for about 10 minutes. Repeat this procedure 3 to 4 times a day. This provides relief from problems like itching due to the presence of tannic acid in tea.

Carrot

Carrot poultice is one of the best home remedies for treating herpes infection. Grate the carrot and bundle up in a gauze or cloth and apply on the eruptions. This will accelerate healing, alleviate pain and also reduces glandular swelling.

Baking Soda

Mix baking soda in water. Dip a cotton ball in this mixture and apply it on the infected area. Leave it for some time on the sore. This will help in drying the infection and also relieves itching.
