Share

Impetigo is a contagious skin condition
that can be extremely uncomfortable if the infected person is a child. Though it is more common in adults than in children, impetigo in children is not uncommon.

Treatment of impetigo is possible through lotions and skin creams or over-the-counter medicines and pills. Alternatively, one can also opt for the home remedies for impetigo in children as these are effective and safer than over-the-counter medicines and lotions.

5 Effective Home Treatments For Impetigo

A child when infected with impetigo must be kept at home and treated immediately. Impetigo home remedies contain the spread of the infection and also heal the area without delay.

Cleaning

Treatment of impetigo is possible only when the area is clean. To clean the infected skin area, use plain water and unscented soap. Doing this on a regular basis throughout the day allows the skin to remain clean and the infection does not spread all over the body. To clean the area, one can also use antibiotic for effective effects and then cover it with gauze. Also, clean the bed sheets and clothing on a regular basis.

That is not all! Cleaning also involves cleaning the crust that appears in and around the affected area. You must take care that the scabs are removed as soon as they form. If the scabs are difficult to remove, then one can soak the area in a warm water and vinegar solution. Once the crust is soaked for a few minutes, wipe off the crust with a clean cloth.

This is very effective for removing impetigo crust in children, who have very soft and supple skin and forcefully removing the scabs can result in formation of scars. In case your child has scabs then avoid itching with finger nails as this will surely spread the infection. Hence, clip your child’s nail and avoid such a situation.

Fruits

Like vegetable juices, increase the consumption of fruits including pears, apples and oranges. These help impetigo patients – both adults and children. All-fruit diet is highly recommended but if your child is unable to keep up the fruit diet then make it a regular feature it after meals.

Foods To Avoid

Decrease the intake of any refines sugar products as this can aggravate the condition of the child. Consumption can worsen the situation and allow the infection to spread across the whole body. Another item that must be removed from the child’s diet plan is food substances that also aggravate the situation.

Other food items that need to be avoided by children suffering from impetigo are dairy products, red meat, and peanut butter. These must be avoided till the infection has cleared out.

Vegetable Juices

Increase the intake of vegetable juices for children. This makes the immune system stronger and a healthy system helps in eliminating the condition. So, treat children with juices of vegetables such as carrots and beetroots for best results.

Oatmeal Bath

Let your child take oatmeal bath on a daily basis for at least 20 minutes. For best results, mix oatmeal powder into the child’s warm bathwater.
