Do you have an itchy scalp which you scratch now and then? Well, scratching is not the right solution for your problem. Though it would provide temporary relief but the moment you get your nails away from your scalp, it’ll start itching again.
Your nails might end up hurting the upper layer of your scalp causing irritation and sometimes may even cause pain. Also, scratching your head is not considered socially sound, people around you would consider you to be unclean.
It would be better to search for a solution before the problem increases or leads to social embarrassment. Itchy scalp is a basic symptom of majority of the scalp problems such as dandruff, lice, dry scalp and similar other issues. Various medications are available for itchy scalp but using home remedies would be cheaper and safer, best of which are listed below.
Various scalp problems are caused due to cleanliness issues. Unclean scalp with piled up dirt leads to breeding of various micro-organisms which cause itching. The basic idea to avoid scalp problems is to keep your scalp clean. Wash your hair atleast twice a week with a good shampoo. Make sure the shampoo you choose is right for your hair. If you have dry scalp with dandruff, use a mild shampoo. Whereas if you have oily scalp, go for a little hard shampoo that can cut off all the oil in your head.
Itching is sometimes caused due to fungal growth in scalp. Using vinegar makes condition unfavourable for such fungi and relieves you from the problem. Using vinegar is quite easy. All you need to do is – wash your hair with a shampoo, like you normally do. Mix vinegar with water in a mug, preferably in ratio of 1:4 (1 part of vinegar with 4 parts of water).
After you are done washing your hair, give a last rinse to your head with the vinegar water. Follow the procedure atleast once a week till you are completely over with the problem. For better results use apple cider vinegar, though any vinegar works well.
Olive oil can be used if the scalp itches due to dryness. But, how would you know if your scalp is dry? Well, dryness often leads to dandruff. If you have dry, damaged hair with dandruff then you should try olive oil. It helps by keeping your scalp moisture packed. Olive oil also helps in getting rid of lice by suffocating them to death.
Apply olive oil all over your scalp and allow it to work for atleast 2 hours, after which you can wash your hair. The best way to get all the benefits of an oil is to use hot oil therapy. Instead of using oil directly, heat it a little. Apply it on your scalp and wash after 2 hours. Hot oil easily seeps into skin and provides all the benefits directly to the inner layers.
Lemon works just like vinegar. It kills all the harmful micro-organisms in your hair that cause itching. Squeeze out half a lemon in a mug of water. After washing your hair, give a final rinse with the lemon water. For better results you can make a mixture of one spoon of lemon with four spoons of water. Apply the mixture all over your scalp and allow it to work for around 5 minutes. Wash your hair thorougly to remove every trace of lemon. Follow the procedure atleast once a week till you get completely rid of the problem.

Baking soda is a remarkable cleansing agent. It helps in cleansing your scalp and deeply nourishes it. Since it is a little difficult to use baking soda directly in hair, it is preferred to make a paste of it. Take two tablespoons of baking soda and add a little water to it.
Water must be sufficient enough to convert baking soda into a paste. Apply the mixture all over your scalp and massage lightly for around 30 seconds. Allow the massaged mixture to work for a minute or so. Finally, rinse it thoroughly. You needn’t use a shampoo to wash off the mixture as the paste itself is a very good cleansing agent and works like a home made shampoo.
