8 Home Remedies For Lactose Intolerance

Share

One of the major sources of nutrients for people is milk and other dairy products. Therefore, adults and children alike start feeling that they are missing out on something very important when they are unable to tolerate an entire food group. However, there are several ways through which people can supply calcium to their bodies without leading to any dangerous or unpleasant consequences.

An all-or-nothing principle is not a principle that’s applied to lactose intolerance. After three years of age, it is normal for the level of lactose in the intestinal tract to start declining. However, the steepness of the decline can vary for every individual because it takes into account a number of symptoms that include none to a lot of gas, cramping and diarrhea.

8 Various Remedies For Lactose Intolerance

Soy Milk

Since people are usually in the habit of taking cow milk, it might take them some time to get used to soy milk.

Switching milk will not give rise to any of the symptoms of lactose intolerance. People can add in other recipes or even pudding to the milk if they are finding it difficult to get used to its taste.

Lactase Products

Lactase products should be given some consideration. To enable lactose intolerant people in incorporating milk and other dairy products in their diet, there are a myriad of lactase products that can be found in the market nowadays.

A few drops of the liquid form of the lactase enzyme or a little powder can be sprinkled onto the milk. The lactose will become predigested in this way. However, in order to give the drops enough time to work, people should add them to the milk at least 24 hours before. Another option available to people is to have a dairy product and immediately ingest a lactase tablet after.

Sardines

If people are unable to consume any dairy products and drink milk, they can use sardines because they are laden with calcium and can provide the body with the calcium it needs.

Dark green leafy vegetables, sesame seed products, tofu, cooked dried beans, canned salmon, dried apricots and nuts are some of the other foods that are laden with calcium.

Raw Milk

Trying raw milk is another option at the disposal of people. Raw milk drinkers have provided anecdotal evidence that indicates that drinking raw milk is not a problem for people who cannot tolerate pasteurized milk.

However, there has been research conducted on this particular theory that shows that no benefit is derived from lactose intolerant individuals when they opt to forgo pasteurized milk for raw milk.

According to some people, this result indicates that a lot of people might claim to be lactose intolerant because they feel so. But, in reality and from a clinical perspective, there are only a small number of people who actually suffer from this problem.

Cocoa Powder

It has been substantiated by studies that the pace of the emptying of stomach is slowed down by sugar, cocoa powder and chocolate powders and this can be helpful for the body when lactose has to be digested.

This means that a lesser amount of lactose will actually reside in the body at one time because the stomach will be emptying slowly. Hence, the symptoms that are associated with lactose intolerance will be fewer.

Hard Cheese

If you love cheese and cannot stop yourself, then opt for cheddar, Swiss, Colby or some other hard cheeses. The lactose content of the cheese is lower, the harder it is.

Cream cheese and cottage cheese are some spread able and soft cheese that should also be avoided by lactose intolerant people for avoiding any reactions.

Yogurt

According to research, incorporating yogurt in the diet is a good option for people who suffer from lactose intolerant. This might come off as a bit strange because yogurt is very high in lactose content.

However, proper digestion is enabled with the aid of lactase and the bacterial cultures in yogurt actually assist with the production of this lactase. If yogurt can be tolerated by lactose intolerant people, it is definitely a good food item to be incorporated in the daily diet plan.

Acidophilus Milk

Incorporating lactobacillus acidophilus in cold milk is the best way to make acidophilus milk. A number of studies have not found any improvement when they have checked the efficacy of acidophilus milk for improving digestion.

It has been stated by researchers that this problem may have occurred because the acidophilus content that was in the acidophilus products wasn’t enough to show any signs of improvement.
