Night sweats or hot flash is an extremely uncomfortable body reaction that is experienced by a number of menopausal women. Caused by a drop in estrogen level of the patient, night sweats symptoms include a sudden increase in the body temperature and excessive sweating.

Though there are a number of over-the-counter medicines for hot flashes, home remedies are considered a better and safer option.

Control The Room Temperature

As soon as one experience an episode of night sweat then one can switch on the air conditioner and let the room cool down. Also, one can get rid of heavy blankets instead use light cotton bed sheets.

Ice Chips

Keep a cup of ice chips in handy if you suffer from frequent night sweat episode. Suck on the ice chips at regular intervals to cool and regulate the body temperature. Also, one can drink at least 8 glasses of chilled or ice water for best results.

Cool Shower

Lowering body temperature is also possible with cool showers before bed time. Though this alone might not be able to treat night sweats, but when used along with other methods it can reduce the frequency.

Stress

One of the major causes for night sweats is stress. Hence, one of the best ways to treat the episode is to treat your stress. So, avoid stressful situations and resort to stress treatments such as yoga therapies or meditations. Also, one can include regular exercises or cycling in their daily routine to eliminate night sweat symptoms.

Avoid Spicy Food

Most spices, such as chili pepper, horse radish, or curry powder can trigger uncomfortable episodes of night sweats; hence, avoid the spices as it increases the chances of one experiencing hot flashes or night sweats.

Avoid White Sugar

We all use white sugar in beverages and snacks on a daily basis. But while suffering from night sweats, avoid white sugar in all forms because it provides glucose that can increase the frequency of night sweats. Also, it can upset the sugar level within the body and trigger an episode of hot flashes in women.

Avoid Caffeine And Beverages

Night sweat patients must decrease the intake of caffeine products. In most cases, caffeine-rich foods, chocolates, and beverages can increase the blood sugar levels and focus which can trigger night sweats or hot flash.

To decrease the frequency, avoid coffee, tea, energy drinks, and soft drinks. Also, energy drinks must be avoided by women suffering from night sweats as it can worsen the situation.

Stop Smoking

If you are a heavy smoker then you are increasing the body temperature and the chances of you suffering from night sweats. For best results, stop smoking and this can reduce the frequency of night sweats.
