The skins of eyelids are very soft and hence very susceptible to infection. Often because of dirt, allergies or due to contact dermatitis, you tend to suffer from red eyelids. Contact dermatitis means that you get allergies from some kind of contact.
Our hands are often contaminated with dust, dirt and other impurities and so when the eyes are rubbed and touched frequently by this then it gets allergies from such contact. Because of these allergies your eyes will start itching, then they will swell up and even pain and gradually you will see your eyelids turning red. Aloe Vera is rich in Vitamin A, C, E, Folic acid, Choline and Niacin and it acts as a disinfectant, an antibiotic, anti-fungal, antiseptic and antibacterial and thus helps to reduce the red eyelids problem. To get relief from red eyelids, get some Aloe Vera from your garden and apply the gel four to five times a day for about one week.
The anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and disinfecting properties not only soothe your eyelids but also cure the problem. With continuous application, you will witness a sharp decrease in itching, pain and swollen nodes.
Potatoes and cucumber are very useful in treating your red eyes. Both potatoes and cucumber are rich in nutrients like Vitamin B6, thiamine, potassium, riboflavin, carotenoids and many more.
To relieve you from red eyelids, slice thin pieces of potatoes or cucumbers and extract the pulp by putting them in a blender. Combine this pulp with a cup of basil tea made in boiling water. Freeze this mixture to form ice cubes. Wrap these cubes in a piece of cloth and compress your eyes with that for relief. Continue this twice daily.
Keep some milk in your fridge until it is very cold. Soak some cotton pads in this cold milk and use this to compress your eyes. While doing so, keep your head elevated a bit with the help of pillows.
The cool temperature will relieve you of the pain in your swollen eyelids and milk helps to soothe the inflamed blood vessels. This compress will cure your red eyelids problem if you use this process daily or even twice daily.
Tea leaves consist of tannins which act as anti-inflammatory and natural astringents and reduce the swellings and inflammation. To use tea bags to cure red eyelids put some used, wet tea bags in your fridge until they are cold.
Wrap one or two cold wet tea bags in a tissue or cheesecloth to avoid tea stains around your eyes. Use these to cold compress your eyes. You can use them four times a day for one week to get benefited.
You can also cold compress your eyes with frozen peas to get relief if you have got red eyelids. The cold compress will constrict the blood vessels reducing blood flow to the affected area which reduces the inflammation.
Frozen peas acts as a massaging medium reducing the pain in eyelids and soothing the itchiness. Along with cold compressing with frozen peas, you can also splash cold water in your eyes additionally. Cold water splashes will also have soothing effects on your eyelids.
