In simple terms, ‘trigger finger’ is a situation where finger gradually becomes bent and gets locked thereby restricting its movement. This can happen to any of the fingers. If it affects the thumb, then it is called as ‘trigger thumb.’ Those who make frequent movement of their fingers are prone to this ailment. For example, farmers, musicians, people working on certain types of industries have greater chances of acquiring this ‘trigger finger’ ailment.
The common symptom includes pain while making movement of the fingers. In some cases, the patient may also notice soreness near the base of the finger. There are certain home remedies which help to effectively manage the ‘trigger finger.’
This is a simple procedure. Soak the affected finger in warm water. Keep the affected finger in warm water for about ten minutes. Repeat this procedure for several times a day.
At the same time, go to your physiotherapist who would prescribe certain exercises. Perform these exercises after you complete the process of soaking the hands in warm water.
One of the main causes of Trigger Finger is repeated movement of fingers. The obvious remedy is to give enough rest to the fingers. This may necessitate changing your routine.
For example, by reducing gripping action you will be able to give enough rest to the fingers. Further, by giving rest to the fingers the inflammation of the tendon reduces, thereby it gradually relieves you of the Trigger finger.
One of the greatest advantages of massaging is; it gives you substantial relief from the pain. But, massaging will not reduce the inflammation.
Therefore, some of the physiotherapists suggest that massaging should be associated with other remedial actions like exercises, soaking in warm water and so on. By this combination of different therapies you will be able to get substantial relief from ‘Trigger finger.’
This is a metallic device with foam padding. The device helps you to hold the finger in straight position. The foam padding is designed to give maximum comfort. Of course, by adopting this device the finger gets enough rest. This is because; the Finger Splint does not allow the movement of the finger and thereby the affected finger gets enough rest.
Take about one teaspoon of Frankinscence essential oil and apply it on the affected finger. Massage gently for about 15 minutes. Alternatively you can also apply Cat’s Claw essential oil.
This will help in reducing the inflammation. Continue with this treatment for about a week. For better results, apply the oil and also follow any of the other remedies suggested above. That gives you quick relief from Trigger finger.
Take about four to five pieces of White Willow bark. Add about ½ inch ginger, half teaspoon turmeric and make a paste of all the ingredients. Apply the paste on the affected finger at least twice a day.
After applying the paste, allow it to remain on the finger for about one hour. Now, dip the finger in warm water for about ten minutes. This procedure not only reduces the inflammation but also gives you quick relief from Trigger finger.
